By accident one day I powered off the 003 while the spinning of death when I was quitting PT and that's when it actually quits PT.

Definitely has something to do with the communication, cause I replicated the sequence and that same result.

I even tried a new firewire cable and the same results.

I got the exact same problem after upgrading the OS on my MacPro (Trashcan) from Catalina to Big Sur and Monterey. I never had a problem with this on Mojave or Catalina but now it hangs when quitting Pro Tools every time. Pro Tools Ultimate version 2023.9.
The only thing I did was to upgrade the OS. Uninstalling and Reinstalling Pro Tools does not help.

Probably a easy fix

Hi. I’ve just checked a case and it was fixed by doing an optimization on the computer it’s running pro tools on.

You can check the link below on how to optimize your computer for pro tools use
https://avidtech.my.salesforce-sites...ge/Optimize-12

Let me know if the same issue occurs

Since my last post where I claim everything is fixed: https://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?...64#post2699664

When I installed PT 2024.6, the spinning ball on exit came back intermittently and the Pro Tools ran out of CPU power. Try de-activating or removing Native plug-ins (AAE -9173) was unbearably frequent.

I found that quitting the Brave browser while running Pro Tools cleared up the AAE -9173.

It seems to me the spinning ball on exit may have something to do with changing between 44.1 to 48 or 96 during that session.

It seems as though if my interface is showing 48 and all I do is load and unload sessions at 48 and close Pro Tools when I'm done, it quits normally - but if I load a 96 or 44.1 - there will be a problem on quit.

I haven't done any testing, I just Force Quit if it hangs and go on with my day.

You might be on to something. I'm going to check on older session that were at 44.1, usually I'm tracking at 48. I they know if I quit PT, and of course the ball is spinning after. I can shutdown the 003rack, or 003 console and then PT will close.

Turning off Wifi or FileVault is not a solution nor the solution.

This issue is what it has always seemed to be, an issue with how Pro Tools releases control of the audio hardware/interfaces when quitting the software.

Whether that's due to changing sample rates as mentioned, or using 3rd party interfaces where other software and the OS can also use it as a sound device at the same time as Pro Tools, etc.

It's a software issue in Pro Tools (and/or the OS), and needs to be taken more seriously by Avid.

Have you tried this workaround ?

Duguy has discovered this.

OK guys, I found a small solution and it seems to work for me (need to test it more).

First, go to User>Shared and rename the Pro Tools folder as Pro Tools.old to generate a new one.

Like someone said, you can also check in User>Library>Logs>Avid>. It can be useful for the avid customer service.

Let me know if it fixes the problem for you too. I have also disabled avid link at launch to be sure.

Didn't work for me, even Avid sent me this procedure, and no go.

Might give it a try.

Have you already tried clearing your Pro Tools Prefs? Is the same thing happening?
