new tracks appearing on their own

Is there a shortcut that I don't know about which does "create a new track of the same type as the last one" or "...as the highlighted one" or something? Lately I keep finding a new audio track or aux input track appearing randomly.

Just now, one appeared in front of my eyes when I happened to 'fluff' my hand across my magic trackpad but I couldn't reproduce whatever action I might have triggered.

The new track always appears at the bottom/right hand end regardless of what track might have been highlighted. It's harmless; just weird.

Yes,,,, if your windows are any wider then the amount of tracks (with blank space showing ) to the right of the tracks in the mix window, or below the tracks in the edit window.. And your cursor is in that blank space, and you (inadvertently, or on purpose) double click,,,,, then PT will duplicate the track (type) that is furthest right in mix window or the bottom track in edit window, and put it furthest right or bottom respectively
You may want to lower the sensitivity of your track pad
