Default Crash when playing and zooming

I having a heck of a time today.... Crashing with PT 8.0.3 osx 10.5.8. when playing, QT out to Canopus, I'm ok until I zoom in or out in play mode. Then it will hang up.

I've trashed everything and made a fresh session.

I know about the Canopus bug on session launch and that's not my issue.

Any suggestions?

JIM

Happens whether the video is going out the firewire port or onto the desktop. Happens if the video is offline. Happens if the video isn't loaded with the session.

I'm not getting this with other sessions... I've done a clean build of the session by opening a new, empty session and importing tracks from the old session (making sure that I copy the audio files, not just targeting the old ones).

I'm thinking that I'll need to do a uninstall, load 8.0 and up to 8.0.1cs1.

Any ideas, friends?

thanks.... JIm

replicated crash on a different system, same configuration.

my configuration:

HD2 (1 accel, one core)
PT 8.0.3.cs1
OS 10.5.8
dual quad core Xeon
2.8 Ghz
16 gigs of Ram
Canopus ADVC110
4 internal SATA drives

I have:

Repaired permissions
removed and trashed all pref and volume info
All database files have been trashed weeks ago
Problem persists whether the video is online or off.
Other sessions don't have this issue.
I have created a new, empty session and then imported session data from the problem session, bringing in all tracks and copying all audio.

This is a biggish session About 80 voices used, lots of aux routing, a few Waves plug ins.

WHat else can I tell you?

In an attempt to isolate a bogus track, aux or plug in, I made about 2/3rds of the tracks inactive. Then I went through my zoom in and out ritual and didn't get a crash. I went through and reactivated tracks, a few at a time. I've got all tracks working now, and no crashes. I have a few track whose voices were off that are now inactive as well, but I don't get it what changed. I did chance the buffer H/w buffer size a few times and left it ar 1024 because 2048 wasn't allowing enough whatever to get the delay compensation light to go Green.

I am using the session that I troubshot with as my new session.... We'll see.

If anyone can shed light on this, I'd appreciate it. It's a bit unnerving and a bit embarrassing to tell the client that the issue is fixed, but I don't know why.

Gin and Tonics at my house in 30!!!

I had that happen yesterday (no Canopus card). Turns out I had DSP cache enabled after having a power outage and consequent preferences trash/rebuild. Disabled dsp cache, and no more crashy when zooming during playback. Could be a fluke though...

Thanks, Scott. I'll check that when I go in. I think I did toggle that!!!

DSP cache is equal to FAIL. That's something you need to leave off.

Open System Usage (Window -> System Usage).

Click on the little arrow on the right hand side of that window.

Un-check the 'DSP Cache' button that's been sorta hidden from the normal 'Options' screen (which drives me crazy).

If you wipe your pref's, this will turn itself back on by default.

Thanks, Sean.... but true to these things, I can't replicate the issue now. My fixed session came up with using DSP Cache. I banged on it, zooming. No issues. I toggled this setting a number of times and no crashes.

sigh.

Any other ideas out there???
