Default User experiences with PT 7.....

Now that some of you have had a chance to use PT 7 for a while, I wanted to get your feed back. I have heard about various issue, such as the decreased amount of plug-ins you can run, amoung others. I am currently on 6.9.2 and itching to upgrade, but I don't want to loose ability. What should I expect with the upgrade?

Just so you know where I am coming from, I am running a mac OSX Tiger, 2.0 dual Ghz with 7 hundred something of RAM.

I've been using LE 7 for a while and haven't had any problems, but there's a thread in this section called "Poor Performance in LE 7.0-Please Register" that you should check out.

I've been using LE 7 for a little under a month and have to say that it is hands down the best release i've ever dealt with. It's stable and more powerful on my computer (a DP "FW800" G4) than any other version. It littereally cut the CPU load in half on those huge sessions. I haven't had any of those issues mentioned on the poor performance thread.

So far, mine seems to be OK. No major problems other than paying for an upgrade from Waves just for compatibility with v7...although I've been using my existing Waves Platinum plugs with v7 and no crashes. I think the compatibility upgrade will lessen the CPU load.

I ran a fully-loaded 6.7 session in 7 and it ran fine - no decrease in performance that I've noted.

Same here, no problems, and better stabilty and cpu load cut.

But there are some that have problems, I wont deny it, I saw them first hand.

Watch your plugs and update them.

has been working great for me. degrades under heavy load very gracefully, as well - screen updates slow down but the audio engine keeps chugging away happily.

still learning all the keyboard shortcuts though...

7.0 is a fantastic upgrade. Much better MIDI implementation, looping, regions and importing is much better. However some of us have experienced power spiking issues, poor performance and such like.

Some users are seeing no issues and others are pulling their hair out and switching back, so should you buy it? Do you do the lottery?

You may want to wait until 7.1 or if you have a partition on your drive then install 7.0 and use it along 6.9 until you feel confident.

All of my moans about pt 7 seem to have been sorted out by the cs updates and carefully updating/weeding out rogue plug ins.

It now runs like a dream on my dual 1.8 Gig G5 with 2.5 G RAM with OSX 10.4.3.

I opened up an old session in pt 7 that i created in pt 6.9.2 yesterday to do a radio edit and whereas in 6.9.2 I had to literally minimize all the graphics on the screen to do a bounce down (because it was on the limit of cpu usage), in 7 the cpu meter was happily ticking over less than half way!
