Default microphone problem

i am trying to recording vocals with my condenser microphone plugged into my mbox 2 mini with a xlr cable. in pro tools i have an audio track up with the input set to mono input 1 (which is correct) and the output is 1-2 stereo. i have my input monitoring only on and the track is set to record and the phantom power is also on. the mix knob is all the way to the left, but the problem is even when i go up and down with my input 1 volume knob on my mbox the volume level on pro tools does not move. as soon as i hit record enabled on my track the volume automatically goes to a little over zero and does not move. i can here my self talking into the mic but after i record and listen i can hear nothing. i also tried another cable and still the same problem. what is going on?

Not knowing how much experience you have, I'd have to guess you're not pressing all the record buttons properly. 1st you record enable or arm the track you wish to record on, then you hold down record and start, or ctrl/space bar. Are you metering pre or post?

I get this sometimes when i go to record guitar. It just stays up at a certain level then on record-arm off, it goes back down. It is fixed with a reboot for me....
