Default 8.0.4 Sluggish Slow Transport - Not responsive?!

Anyone else seeing sluggish or slow transport response in 8.0.4 --

About 4 hours into the work day. I hit the space bar, it starts playing. I hit the space bar again. It doesn't stop. Hit it again doesn't stop. Hit Esc key multiple times thinking maybe my keyboard came loose at which point the transport FINALLY stops -- 5-8 Seconds later. Then all of the commands that I did that followed the initial space bar occur.

I am a recent convert from PT7. In fact just spent 8k upgrading computer + peripherals in hopes that my system would be "lightning fast". Haven't found a significant boost except for video which is less stuttery. In fact, PT7 never had this kind of transport latency.

Please help DAE Buffer set to 2 / Cache Min / H/W Buffer 512. Delay Comp Long / Host Processors 16

For the record I am working off a template session that I created in PT7 and pulled into a clean PT8 session.

I run into this now and then ESPECIALLY when running non .dv video.

I just reboot the whole system and the speed returns.

UPDATE: If I use the transport controls on the C24, the transport will start and stop on cue. But the same command from keyboard takes 5 seconds or so to register?!

What the?

Have you tried trashing prefs? Are ALL installed plug-ins compatible? Have you done any other troubleshooting from the General Troubleshooting thread and, if so, which ones specifically? What happens if you use a new session, not based on a template?

I did yesterday when I first encountered the issue -- but will do again. Didn't seem to help.

The only additional plugins that I installed are waves 7.1 diamond + waves surround bundle and Dolby Surround Tools 8.0.0

All I think -

Monitor Resolution/ Date and Time
Energy Saver
Airport Off
Bluetooth Off
No Firewire networking
Repaired Permissions
Deleted Databases and Volumes (used the software tool provided in DUC)
No Virus Protection
Only USB is Iloks + Keyboard/Mouse
Filevault off
Spotlight off

**Did not check**
Pace
New Admin account

Well not sure really. I have this template which is pretty elaborate. Would take me at least a day to recreate and get all my tweaks right.

When I was editing the other day in a 50-60 track session created in 8 wasn't a problem -- of course there were no plugs or elaborate routing scenarios.

One thing that I did try yesterday once I noticed it happening was I pulled the offending session into *another* clean PT8 session and it seemed to work more smoothly (until today). Also, the video file that I am pulling along is an H.264 864x486 Millions Color Data Size 1.27 gigs (44 min ep)

Any help you can offer would be appreciated. I have another bay I can try this in tomorrow. I can also post an update of what I find. But any help in the mean time would be super.

It is VERY odd that C24 actuates the transport but keyboard lags. That is still repeatable.

Make sure that you empty your trash after using that pref/database app. Also, which boxes are you selecting to be deleted? sb

Welcome to Version 8 with all its glory!
I have this issue creep up and trashing the prefs fixed it. I run into it about twice a week. D-Control works right away but keyboard and mouse is delayed.
Like you, only waves and PT plugs.
I went back to 7 and things have been SO much better. But, I am trying to get 8 smooth...I WANT TO BELIEVE!

I'll give deleting prefs etc. a go again -- I actually trashed everything using the app -- clicked all (and emptied the trash) when I tried before.

Also, I'm using 8.0.4cs3 -- so up to date...

Really???! See problem is, I can't go back to 7. First off -- already upgraded the Waves to V7 (which can't remember if they're compatible now with PT7) -- But then I have the PE6R4i which is incompatible or something. Can't remember exactly -- but I'm pretty sure something in my system is preventing me from reverting back to 7.

It would be interesting to see what happens if you use a new session file, not based on a template. You don't even have to create a template - just create a new session, as many tracks as your usual template and use AudioSuite Signal Generator across all tracks to create some audio. This should put it under a similar stress test as your template - go ahead and add a few plug-ins and whatever you'd typically use as far as busses, just for good measure. I doubt that the actuall 'stress' has anything to do with the problem, but it can't hurt to find out.

If it works, you'll know the problem is likely the template.

If it doesn't, it'll give us better info about where the problem actually lies.

Another thing to check - what is your video playback quality set to in Pro Tools Preferences?
