Generating SMPTE Timecode in PT

Hello all,

I provide PA playback for Music Videos, and need to create SMPTE striped CDs. So I need audible SMPTE timecode on one channel, the actual music track on the other channel. I send the TC channel to my digislate, the audio channel (mono summed) to the PA.

Does anyone know any way of creating the audible timecode signal (sounding like very fast beeps and blodges) in an audio track within Pro Tools?

The ability to create this entirely in the software would be great, as it'd just be a case of importing the music track and lining it up with a timecode signal, then bouncing down to a split stereo file, burning the CD, then hey presto...

Problem is, I don't know how to do it as yet! tried an old eMagic MTP which doesn't work (also uses Midi Timecode, not SMPTE).

if there's any upgrade I'd need to do (I run MBOX 2 and 002 Rack) to HD, or any hardware, Digidesign or otherwise compatible that people could suggest also, would be greatly appreciated. Something not too costly (I've see Denecke units, may consider those (I assume it's the same as doing it from my TS-C Digislate, but without the slate or readout). Anyone familiar with the workflow of the Denecke units?

You can't do it in the software, you need a separate piece of hardware to generate SMPTE audio timecode.

You can do this if you have a sync I/O and PT HD. Pro Tools let you generate an audio LTC Timecode that is in sync with the session. If you don't have a sync I/O and HD then perhaps you can ask someone to create a file that you can import into Pro Tools that starts at 01:00:00:00 and goes for a specified time, then simply send this out one of the Pro Tools outputs so when you create your stereo bounce you pan the music left and the TC output right.
