Default Any Sonoma + Carbon users?

Given the news of some users receiving forced Sonoma updates, are there any Carbon users here who are deliberately or accidentally using Sonoma? And if so, does it work ok?
P.S. I don’t want to discuss the Sonoma update problem here or other Pro Tools / Sonoma issues - they are all covered by the Sonoma threads in the MacOS sub-forum. Just - do you have Carbon and Sonoma and does it work?

Thanks. One person is better than none!

Avid's own page on this says that there are problems with Carbon.

https://avidtech.my.salesforce-sites...a-Known-Issues

Interestingly, a lot of Pro Tools problems seem to be getting fixed by subsequent versions of MacOS. I don't know whether this shows that Apple has made mistakes, or if it shows that Avid is slow to make changes.

Either way, glad that it's working for you. It would be useful if Avid specified the problems in more detail and the conditions under which they occur.

Have been using Sonoma 14.5 and PT Ultimate 2024.6.0 for months after hearing that later vsns/ of PT were compatible with Sonoma. I've had some CPU errors after multi-hour sessions but restarting fixed.

However, as of a few weeks ago, my MacPro running Sonoma 14.5 suddenly won't see Carbon interface on boot up and I have to work around by booting Carbon Central first, resetting system sound settings and then booting protools (or PT won't see carbon interface). A royal pain. Also you'll experience CPU errors with multiple VI plugins - even 3-4.

Got off with support and discovered that Avid's messaging that though PT 2024.6 was compatible with Sonoma 14.5 did not include its sister hardware Carbon. That should be made crystal clear for Avid's customers who upgraded / purchased the newer Carbon platform.

Apparently Avid will be releasing a newer Carbon update to be compatible with Sonoma - but in past experience - that may be years from now. Apple has already released Sequoia so Carbon is 3 generations behind.

Avid - if you are reading this - please make your software/hardware communications clearer and get us a Carbon fix for Sonoma.

Read the Pro Tools release notes. It is clearly mentioned there.

As for Sonoma compatibility and Carbon version coming out... that conversation has been had. Fix needs to happen on Apple's side and the fix appears to come out with Sequoia and not Sonoma. This has been covered here. Sonoma will never been supported.

I asked this same question a few weeks ago.

Here’s the read which includes replies from Avid.

Hey all

Just posted this on another thread, but it's also relevant for this one.

We were not able to qualify Sonoma due to the drop out issue and performance issues.

However, we are able to qualify Carbon using Audio Midi Setup with Sequioa as of today with the release of Pro Tools 24.10.

Carbon Central, either with a single Carbon of with Pres, is NOT qualified with Sequoia.
There are multiple Apple bugs but their resolution is looking positive.

You can check this KB for known issues and work arounds. It will also be updated once we are able to qualify Carbon Central.
