For clean but not sterile I loved it. The neve has more color but I think the Avalon was a little clearer. The EQ was great too. The compressor blows though.

Hi!!
I just bought the Universal Audio 610, and I´m happy.
At the same time I bought the Apogee Trak2, which has decent mic-pre´s to.
Anybody has any opinion about the Trak2 pre´s.
(They sound clean, but a little to harsh for me)
The UA610 added just the warmth that I needed.

hejhopp.

If you're looking for a single channel DI with about +24dB gain (good for synth modules), the Summit Audio TD-100 is very, very nice. I just bought one for the studio and it's great for many applications such as bass, DI guitar, synth modules, etc, etc.

The price of this unit is a major bargain (less than $400 or so).

Most people I know who have that unit say it is great for somethings but horrible for others. Not a great pre when you only have one.

If only getting one pre, I would get the neve.
<hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Well that's true of almost everything...I found the Neve, for me, a bit on the dark side. It's certainly a great pre, but perhaps I was just ready for something different.

The UA is colored too, but in a way that just seems to sound great on all the important stuff....vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, and bass and guitar direct through it are amazing, for those times when that's needed. In fact I haven't heard anything it doesn't sound great on, although I don't cut live drums so maybe that's a weakness.

Perfect world would see me with this, and something it's polar opposite, like the Great River (not the new NV series).

Brent Averill 1272 for rock and rap or anything that needs to be fat and have lots of harmonic distortion.

Just got my Great River MP2-NV and I must conclude with the other owners who have voiced their evaluations that this piece is the real deal! I like it better than my 737 and much better than the Vintech 2 channel I owned. If you can afford it get at least the one channel version.
