Default What\'s the trick to using the SEARCH function ?

Whenever I do a search for specific phrases, words, or error codes, it never fails that the search results have nothing to do with the keywords that I have entered. Is anyone else having difficulty finding things using the Search Function? Is there some trick to having the results more accurately reflect the query? Thanks.

Try using quotes around the phrase. "mBox outputs" produces a way different response than mbox outputs (without quotes). The quotes ensure that the entire phrase is in the search results, not just the individual words - which could be separated by a paragraph or more.

Using Quotation marks at best yields one or two finds that come close. More often than not, there's nothing remotely related. And why is the defaut "Newer than 1 Week". Aren't most of you looking for things that are much older than that? I appreciate this place VERY much and feel the need to make some suggetions that might help most of the users here. The Search function is pretty crucial , yes? am i the only one here who is frustrated with the search results?

I've found that putting a PLUS sign before the keywords has done the trick.

We are referring to the "Search the DUC" search area , yes?

not the "Search the Answerbase".

I just had the same results doing the search on the "Search the Answerbase" page.

it would appear that the easiest solution is to simply Post a Question..
.. and watch as the incredibly selfless masters of software appear and answer with uncanny aptitude.

Uh.. let's see.. I just searched for +mmc and left everything at the default and it returned 4 posts (probably 5 with this one now).

Which Browser are you using.. use Internet Explorer.
