Default First crashes just before launching on Windows 10

Having a nightmare and hoping someone can help me out here! Any help appreciated.

I’m using ASIO4ALL and propellerhead balance interface as soundcard on a Dell windows 10 machine with 16g ram, intel 7th gen and plenty of HD space.

When launching I can see ASIO driver open in right lower corner of screen so I know that’s working, but after that once session is selected to open it never manages to launch and crashes. It crashed shortly after I’ve received a notification to show audio device has changed and there’s no inputs. I’ve attached a screenshot. The last thing I see before crashing is an opening overview status box.

I’ve pushed N while launching and it allows me to select asio4all as driver but inputs are greyed out and a default setting is selected.

Not quite sure what to troubleshoot next hence this post!

Anyone got any ideas?

First is only supported on W10 build 1909 and it would be helpful if you gave more relevant info of your system.

The message about ins and outs is only about the session you're opening. It was created with some different names in I/O setup. Just go there and default everything once the session is open. You should perhaps use the PH Balance own driver and drop ASIOforAll?

Yes stop using ASIO4ALL if you can use a native ASIO driver. Ideally uninstall ASIO4ALL off the system.

If it still crashes...

Do you see any other errors on the screen?

Look in the Pro Tools log and see what is happening near the end of the Pro Tools log (for a run that crashes). Post that text here, especially if it looks interesting. https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/ar...o-Tools-System (I hope Pro Tools First logs are similar to Pro Tools).

Righto! Yeah just checked and I’m not running 1909- it’s a much earlier version. Will need to and update. Microsoft is only allowing you to upgrade to latest 20h2 on their site. Know if 20h2 is compatible? Thanks for your help.

Well you don't have a lot of choices.... so I'd just upgrade.

While one or two folks reported problems with Pro Tools (not First IIRC) on 20h2, many more users reported it running OK. (and there are always some upgrade issues for some users, the software is just so fussy).

Don't forget the ASIO driver.

(...).
Each time I heard something about this crash, the hardware is a Dell.
I have the same problem with my Dell / Realtek.
I have switched to another DAW as there is absolutely no solution.
