which PowerMacs are compatible?
I have a 7300/180 Macintosh. Can I use it with the digi001, or do I have to buy a G3/G4? Thanks

Re: which PowerMacs are compatible?
That CPU won't run a 001 without a G3 upgrade card, which is an untested configuration that may or may not work.
You might want to wait to find out the results of other users with this combination before going out and buying a new computer. The 7300 won't be on the list of supported CPUs, but it may turn out that you can use it with a NewerTech or MaxPower G3 card for a lot less than a new machine. There may be other factors involved though, like the PCI bus speed, that I suppose could effect performance. ------------------ Bruce Paine Digidesign eMarketing

Re: which PowerMacs are compatible?
So I will think better about it, since it will cost me not aonly the card but a whole new machine.
I have a doubt: the G4 doesn't have SCSI, at least not the first one. Can I still record music without having a SCSI drive? And how many tracks? |

If the 7300 cannot run the 001, why can the 9600 (main difference that I know of is 3 extra PCI slots!). The hardware manual is the same for the 7300, 8600 & 9600 models. I have a 7300 (I am not planning on buying a G4 until next year sometime but I have the 001 on order now!) Graham |

Re: which PowerMacs are compatible?
Just got the December issue of Sound On Sound and it solves the riddle of 9600/8600/7300. Apparently only the 300 and 350 MHz versions of the 9600 will run the 001. Why did Digidesign just say 9600 in their web information? I am still going to try the 001 with my 7300 to see if it can run a lower number of tracks. I have a project coming up to recreate a piece of music of which I have a very poor cassette copy. The original was probably midi generated so I will bring in the copy on audio tracks and try recreating it on the midi tracks.
