Bobby Owsinski mixing engineers handbook reverb technique

I’ve been really enjoying this book on mixing by Bobby Owinski and I have understood most of it, but I got to a reverb technique I do not quite understand. I get the basic concept that if you EQ before the reverb you can cut the low end and get bright reverb, or cut high end and get darker reverb. I will attach a picture of the section I am having trouble with. It has to do with taking a stereo effects channel and making one side “bright” and one side “dark” and I’m not quite sure how to shape each side of an effects aux, or if I am even understanding what he is trying to say at all!

The tip starts with “if the source part is mono and panned hard to one side” if anyone knows how to set this up or explain that would be much appreciated thanks!

Mono Audio Track routed to a stereo out. Put a mono audio file on that track. Pan that track hard left (for this example.) On that track, have a stereo send to reverb with follow master panner off (FMP unlit)

Stereo Reverb aux track with input being the previous stereo send and the aux routed to stereo out. First insert plugin, multi-mono eq. Open eq, unlink channels. Go to left eq channel, cut with a high shelf. Go to right eq channel, boost with high shelf. (or, quite frankly, whatever you want to do.) Second insert plugin, stereo reverb.
You'll end up with a dark reverb return on the left channel and a bright reverb return on the right channel. Blend to taste with the original audio track. (if doing this, I would probably put a third multi-mono plugin after the reverb to adjust/trim for left and right channels)

Oh amazing! Thank you so much for your thoughtful answer! Multi-mono plugin was the missing link for me! I did not fully understand that concept now it makes a lot of sense thank you! I always wondered about how to utilize the different channels in a stereo aux. this opens up a whole new section of research for me, thanks for the help!
