Default Pro Tools LE 7.4 for Mac OS X 10.4 System Requirements

It says on the digidesign website compatibility page that
Although Mac OS X 10.4.10 and 10.4.11 have not been tested or qualified by Digidesign, the only known issue at this time has to do with Pro Tools failure to launch in some cases due to improper prebinding.

What is improper prebinding. i want to upgrade to 7.4 from 7.0 and my computer is running tiger 10.4.11 and i don't want to have problems??
g5 dual core ppc 2.3 ghz mac (model A1117) late 2005 model i don't want to have any problems. I know my system is compatible but i am not to sure about this whole improper prebinding stuff????

Have other people had problems with osx 10.4.11 and their g5 PPC mac running 7.4??????????????????????????????????????????????? ???

it says to please download the Mac OS X Prebinding Script from that page if you experience any Problems??
what page exactly is this?? and has anybody ever had a problem with this issue??????????????????

THANK YOU

FWIW, My Mac Pro quad with 10.4.11 and PT7.4 ran great.

If ya don't know what it is, you're probably not going to have problems with it.

Dual G5 is more than enough to run 7.4

If you found this...the link is right below it. Here it is anyway. http://www.paceap.com/prebind_script.dmg It can help some PPC issues. I looked for old threads between digi and myself that convinced me to try it. (Those threads no longer come up in searches) I haven't had any problems with the prebind script or chud tools for the processor preferences.

Holy @#$@#$ 7.4 is a great set up from 7.0. It even seems to run smoother on my computer than the previous 7.0 (could be due to the ram upgrade) I had no troubles with the downloading process and backed up my session files to another external hard drive just to be safe before I did the Upgrade. Glad i did the the ram upgrade from 2 gigs of ECC to 6 GIGS of ecc Ram as well. NOticeably faster and my cPu can handle so many more plug ins and track counts at once. NOw i can stop fussing over all of this upgrade mombo jumbo and get back to what i like doing most -- playing guitar - Composing - and recording!!!

Indeed! G5's with PT 7.4 and 10.4.11 are some of the most solid PT setups you'll find. Mine like NEVER crashes. Ever! Totally stable. Totally dependable. Totally rocking.

Enjoy!

stiefelmusik -

If you get a chance, I'd like to know what settings you have on your Playback Engine when running LE7.4.2 and OSX 10.5.8

Thanks.

No problem. Here is goes:

H/W Buffer Size 256 samples (while tracking)
RTAS Processors 1
CPU Usage Limit 99%
RTAS Engine [x] Ignore Errors
[x] Minimize Additional I/O Latency

DAE Playback Buffer set to default values.

With these settings I find the original Mbox very workable, despite its limitations. While tracking, if I start to get errors at a H/W buffer size of 256 I will either bounce any CPU hungry tracks, temporarily deactivate them, or bump it up to 512 samples depending on what I'm tracking. In general the Mbox is happiest at 512.

I gave up trying to use both processors with Pro Tools on my dual CPU machines years ago! And I bless the day Digi gave us the option to ignore RTAS Engine errors. It has made a huge difference in terms of workflow with the Mbox. All those "holding off CPU errors" used to be such a buzz kill. They still show up from time to time, of course, but far less frequently.

Sorry to venture OT but I'm still bummed Digi has dropped support for the Mbox in Snow Leopard. Very bummed, in fact. I tried installing Snow Leopard on an experimental partition and actually got the Mbox up and running on 10.6.2 with PT LE 8.0cs3 ... but it's no where near as solid as 7.4 so I can't imagine depending on it for any serious work.

stiefelmusik - thanks!
That was my "Ah-Ha!" moment.
Simply switched from two to one and that cured my ills.

krmoss - take note and check your Playback Engine dropdown menu to see how many processors you are using on your Mac.
