Default Dumb Q: DigiSnake DB25 threads 4-40 or mm?

Sorry to ask such a mundane question, but I can't find an answer short of digging around for my calipers. I find nothing in the manual or on the Digidesign web site.

I have some extra DigiSnakes which are DB25-to-XLR. I want to use some on a new StudioComm monitor controller I've purchased which has DB-25 connectors. The StudioComm DB25 screw lock downs have 4-40 threads. If the DigiSnake DB25 connectors have 4-40 threads, super. If instead they are mm, I will need to try to find some replacement screws (not sure where the heck I'll find these).

Thanks for the help!
Mike

Unless Digidesign is reinventing the wheel, the spec for the DB25 connector should be the same, worldwide. ANY DB25M should work with ANY DB25F. Otherwise, the world would be a mess.

Why do you suppose the connectors wouldn't be compato?

Google the spec for the DB25 -- you'll see...

El Biciclista,

I know where you are coming from here. I bought DB25 cables/snakes that have the wrong kind of lockdown screws in them, once from Sam Ash....luckily it included two diffent kinds of screws in the kit (labled TASCAM and Mackie) Confusing though. I think there are two different sizes of thread standards used in DB25 connectors. Can't give you the exact size, but most of the time the db25 connectors (that I usually get on my Redco snakes) come with the type of screw that has a thumb/finger tightening shaft at the end. The kind of screws that simply end like a normal screw never seem to thread right for me. Hope that helps a little. Sorry no measurements.

So Mackie doesn't follow the ANSI/ISO spec for the sub-D?

I don't know. I'll look into it...didn't keep the screws that didn't fit. And therefore can't remember how they were labeled exactly.

Found this online pertaining to the different types of screws that come with some db25 connectors.

"come with two sets of jackscrews, one metric and the other ASME"

That's all I've got. the 4-40 seems to be the standard for most these days.

Regarding where to get the screws: I went to a large hobby shop (one that handles a lot of radio control planes, accessories, etc.)and was able to get the right length and metric thread setup. Unfortunately, I can't remember what the thread size was now.

My Hosa DB25 cables also came with two sets of screws.

Are the extra screws you refer to large thumb screws, just like the ones that come in the connectors, except that the threads are different? When I bought my DigiSnakes, they had some other screws in plastic packets, but they were very small screws, I believe for securing the cable metal strap to the side of the rack. I didn't get any extra thumb screws. It has been probably a year or more since I bought them, though.
