Default 002 rev B - power harness replacement

Is Avid still paying for these?

I hadn't used my 002 for a few years and now I'm having the described problems.

Also, the only number I can find to call Avid customer support requires pre-payment of time?

Thanks!

Digi 002/002R users experiencing any combination of the following symptoms and whose serial number ends in the letter A-F should contact Digidesign Tech Support by phone for information on getting your unit serviced:

The unit keeps on clicking when powering up, or when launching Pro Tools.
"Unable to locate Digidesign Hardware" error message when launching Pro Tools.
Dots or blank scribble strips (002 only)
Firewire light in back is blinking or turned off completely
Sample Rate light is off or blinking
Unit won't power up, or only powers up intermittently
Only the Mute light is lit when powering up and you are unable to disable Mute

Back when they were sending me harnesses I gave them the credit card # and then I did not get charged. But now I think you have to get or buy a special authorization code (online) that lets you talk to them on the phone. Don't think you can call direct anymore and just get through.

In the meantime - take off the back plate. Completely. Disconnect it. Wipe down the contacts with cleaner on a Q-Tip. Put the back on again. You should be able to get a day or two out of it before it goes down again.

Actually, if you work each connection 5-6 times, you might go 6 months before needing to repeat. I called last week for an unrelated issue and remember hearing the automated voice mention a separate place to call for harnesses. You might also call and go to schedule service and get a person that can tell you where your nearest authorized service center is, or check the website as they have some listed(for some reason, my local site was not on the website, but the phone help told me the name, address and phone)....all without the $39.99 ticket(which I did buy the day before and it was a total waste).

Call your local ARC and and ask. They should know off the top of their head. I am fairly sure that Avid stopped the free harness program just recently but rev A-F units may still qualify. They were shipping the harness out at cost now as I recall. I beleive the info is in one of the stickys. The repair center should be up on the latest policy's.

EDIT More Info

I would get a few months, then weeks, than days, then hours - and finally just a few minutes. After that taking the back off and working the connectors would only get me an average of ten minutes. That is after a return to the factory and a harnesses.
