Well, think what you might. It is a great mic for 200 bucks. Maybe not a Nueman But well worth the 200beans

Worth every penny to me, as well.
Maybe your expectations were too high. 200 beans for a Neumann? With a little tweaking, it does a fine job. Recommended. |

Kris - no need to be rude. Why do you feel the need to attack me personally. Can't I make an opinion without slaughter. I'm glad if you all love it. It's funny how people who make an investment in something have to defend any possible negative comment about it.
There advertisments state it's sonic equivalence to high end German mics. I found the opposite to be true. Yes it's frequency response is similar but there was a richness lacking that made it sound like a cheaper mic. Is it worth 200 - sure. Do I want it - No.

While I'd love to say I have a few Neumann mics in my mic cabinet, my budget dictates otherwise. I bought a Studio Project C1. Considering the hype this mic gets, I was expecting it to be OK, but not great. I was wrong; its way better than OK, and for some vocals and instruments it is clearly a great mic. While I don't doubt the TLM 193 is a better sounding mic for some things, I don't think THAT makes the C1 a bad sounding mic. Who cares? Comparing the C1 against the TLM 193 is kinda silly, isn't it? I don't put a lot of faith in marketing hype, anyway...who really does?
That said, someday I'll probably spring for a TLM 103 if I can afford it, and if it demonstrates a sonic improvement over the Studio Projects C1. I expect it will, but for the price, the difference better be significan. The difference should be even moreso with your Neumann TLM 193 mic. After all, the TLM 193 is about $1,000, while the C1 is a mere $225...so does your Neumann sound 4.5 times better? dave patterson / knobville |

Is your skin made of tissue paper? If so, rip off your um, ass cheek and wipe your tears away You said there is nothing silky or smooth about this mic... When I try to sing into mine, it doesn't sound siky or smooth either. Of course I couldn't sing into ANYTHING and have it sound silky and or smooth. (except that machine they used on the Simpsons to make bart and friends a boy band) SO i posted it as a "you get out what you put into it" with sarcastic overtones, because I love to TYPE dry humor on these boards, most people get offfended. If I really wanted to be a dick to you and everyone else don't ya think I wouldn't use my real name and real link to my site, where my address and phone number are? Like everyone else said. This is ONE OF THE BEST SOUNDING MIC's YOU CAN BUY FOR UNDER A GRAND. AND ON SOME VOCALISTS OR INSTRUMENTS IT WILL REMIND SOME PEOPLE OF EXPENSIVE GERMAN MICS. Didn't work for you? Sell it. A LOT of people use it, and like it. Many of us want a pair of C1's but only own one. I am sure you can get your money out of it. Plus you said you have a neumann??? I have a German car (VW) I read that new japanese cars, and say the new ford focus have a "german feel" SO i test drive the other cars.... Nice? well, better than previous attempts to copy the Germans but NOT as refined as the german cars. and I guess thats why they are a little bit cheaper too. DO you feel you didn't get your 200 bucks worth? If so, I think you are the first person to say it wasn't worth the money. |

Actually - I wouldn't be suprised if the 103 sounds as good or better than the 193. The 193 was the first foray into cheaper mics for Neumann. The 103 has a boost in the upper mids that will give it more cut.
So I take it by all the comments that I came on a little to strong for ya. Yeah, I was disappointed - I instantly didn't like it. I kept trying to like it. I compared it to an AKG 535 which is also only a few hundred. There was still something about it. I tried it on voice and accoustic guitar. I liken my experience to the one I had when I first heard the POD. There's this sound that just doesn't feel right. I guess my expectations were too high - I was hoping that it would have the quality of the 193 with a presence boost (nore like the TLM 103). I figured since the 193 is a "cheaper" Neumann - I couldn't go wrong. Maybe there is a diffrence between the new C1's with the bass roll-off and 10db pad and the originals. Anyway - I'm glad your happy. Carl

It could be also possible that different mics (and I mean different C1 mics!), sounds different. It happens with other models too (Rode NT2, for example).....
