Default Audio problems with Mac Pro

Hi! I just bought a Mac Pro 2.66 and I upgraded to Pro Tools LE 7.1 using an MBox.
Everything has been working fine, until today. I use the MBox for audio input/output and today it has been spitting out noise. I started playing a song in iTunes and half way through it crapped out and now all I get is noise.
I had done the latest upgrade to CoreAudio last week, so I dunno what's wrong. Could anyone offer any help? Thanks.

First, are you using the USB cable that came with the Mbox? It is a special one, and the Mbox really needs ot use it for proper results.

Yes, I am using the cable that came with the MBox.
I never had any problems with the unit on my PowerMac G4 933Mhz.
Just tried to play a song right now and all I'm hearing is white noise.

Next, are you sure you are using PT LE 7.1.1cs1?

Yes I am. I even re-installed it.
I'm close to reseting my computer.

Hmm. And I will assume you have unplugged and tried a different port?

The next thing I would suggest is trying it on another system somehow. FInd someone kind enough to let you try it, Mac or XP.

Oh! Do you have anything else USB being powered on there?

Digidesign is excited to announce that ICON, Pro Tools|HD, Pro Tools LE and Pro Tools M-Powered systems will soon be compatible with the new Mac Pro introduced today at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).

Digidesign is expecting to release an Intel-based Mac-compatible update to its acclaimed Pro Tools HD 7.2 software in September 2006. This free update for all owners of Pro Tools HD 7.2 software will allow ICON and Pro Tools|HD users to build their Digidesign system around the new Mac Pro. Within a similar timeframe, the company expects to release compatible versions of its range of Digidesign and Digidesign-distributed TDM plug-ins, while working very closely with third-party manufacturers to help them port their plug-ins and compatible applications to the Intel Mac platform.

bdangler...that is nice, and has been posted before. BUT, it has been reported that the current version runs fine. See my previous posts in this section, and you will see that while Digi has not officially qualified the Mac Pro, it is indeed working fine. Users must, as with ALL Mac Intel based systems currently, take with ancillary software (read as: plugins).

I had a PowerMac G4 before and I never had this problem.
I am using another USB port for my Dell 2007WFP monitor. I don't know if I even need that connection. But now that you mention it, this problem started happening after I setup my new monitor. Can I not have anymore USB powered devices?

Just so we're clear, you did not download a separate CoreAudio installer like the standalone version for PPC-based Macs, did you?
The only version of the Digidesign CoreAudio driver you should have installed would be the one included in the Pro Tools LE 7.1.1 applcation installer:
