Mbox Mic Pre Statistics

Does anyone know the actual amount of gain available on the built in Mbox mic preamps? All I could find was >40db. I'm trying to do some "on paper" comparisons to determine which pre's will work better with ribbon mics. I need to set the mbox preamp almost to maximum volume and it's a bit noisy up there.

(some? most?) Ribbon mics are notorius for this. But they are (sometimes) so damn sweet, it is more satisfying taking the time to solve problems like this than dump the idea of using one (or two...)

Personally, I would use a quality outboard pre with it. The Mbox is far from the only *budget* dasktop computer DAW piece to suffer from this, justifiably so I think.

Unsure of the stats of the Mbox pres offhand.
