Sound Designer 2 question

Lastly, is there some reason you are recording to SD II format? Given that the format is a dinosaur, I would record to wave or AIFF

I'm actually recording to wav format using Sound Designer 2, using an old Quicksilver with an Audiomedia III card and recording 24 bit 48000 hz. Perhaps I should upgrade to 2021. Do you have any recommendations as to a possible replacement for Sound Designer 2? Thanks.

There is no Sounddesigner v 2021, so I don't know what you mean. Anyway, going to current software requires you to go from that quicksilver to something like 20 years more current, and that's a whole other topic.

Yes, unfortunately, no Sound Designer v 2021! No I meant upgrading to what's available in 2021. But as you say, that would be a whole other topic! I've been using Sound Designer since the 90's and find it adequate for my needs ie. digitizing some old cassettes, nothing professional. But I'm curious, would there be a big difference sonically if I were to try to upgrade to more current technology? I'm aware the old AD/DA converter on my Audiomedia III is a dinosaur too.

Shure. There would be a difference with a more modern converter. A big difference? No.
I have a lot of recordings transferred from tape to Sounddesigner thru AudiomediaII ccard in the mid nineties, they sound good still.

If you were transferring almost anything other than cassette… yes. For what you’re doing, I wouldn’t bother. Nothing to gain.
