Default Never Touch the Faders???

I'm not sure if this makes any sense to any of you but some audio mixers swear that once you record in pro tools with the faders at unity, you should never move the faders even while mixing. Does this make any sense????

No, because faders are acting within the 64bit mixer. If you tweak your levels with plugins, the resolution is not the same.

No, because it is easier to automate fader moves than a plugin knob.

No, because this is digital. Makes some sense with analog desks.

No, because it looks stupid :) client comes in and asks you why haven't you mixed anything...

This advice probably came from the same person that thinks your main EQ should always look like "this"(probably a smiley face)

Smiley face was common in the 80s just to compensate speaker response and the lack of skills of an engineer to tune the speaker system.

Today of course the tuning is done automatically and fine-tuned by ear (if there is one). Many live guys still cannot tune PA.

I do tend to leave my MASTER fader at unity. But other than that, that's about the silliest thing I've heard so far this year, and I've heard a lot.

That's just silly. Which mix engineers say this? Are these people actually sound guys, or "audio engineers"?

Well that guy on YouTube Paul Draper never touches his faders and I emailed him and he said to never touch them while mixing. I'm not kidding! Other people that have said this are local mixers, engineers etc who are in my State that told me this when I job shadowed them to learn more about audio mixing. They said if you touch the faders you are decreasing the quality of the input audio gain and should always adjust in plugins. SOUND BOGUS to me

Plugin has 32-bit floating point precision. Pro Tools mixer has 64-bit floating point precision. Faders operate at the mixer level.
