I agree this is something i often need to do quick and easy and it never is. I often end up highlighting all breakpoints between the two that I want to trim. Then using the trim tool usually will work. However, sometimes they are at slightly different levels and the trim tool then will move the entire volume of the track rather than just btw the 2 breakpoints.
bottom line: Would be very cool if in volume view there was a "tab to breakpoint" feature so that one could easily set up the selection area that you want to trim.

...and many chose to turn it off, as it was clashing with Tab to transients.
So, as with any DAW, some things are great and some things get in the way. YMMV.
