Default Touch Screen

I have often imagined how cool a touch screen would be with Pro Tools.

Showing my ignorance here, would this have to be developed on the software or hardware side... or both?
Anyone know of any experimenters in this area?

I think touch screens work by emulating mice. They just come up as another pointing device. So from that aspect it would work. I think everyone is wondering what you hope to gain by using a touch-screen. Since PT and especially 6 is very keyboard-driven, what benefits can you see by being able to touch the screen?

it would only really be cool for the Mix window
using ur fingers to control the faders
as long as u can move more than one at a time
it would be pretty cool

I'm sorry, only one fader is possible to move at same time. Ati Radeon 7500, 17" ctr + elo touch 17" LCD displays.

After several years of PT use, I confess I still don't know all the keyboard short cuts.
I do know my way around a mixer, and pointing my way through insert and send menu's seems attractive to me.
I'm beginning to have carpal tunnel problems from all my computer work.

I can also see selecting regions, moving midi notes, and adjusting EQ curves with a finger.
Sorry if it's impractical or just plain stupid.

My experience with touch screens leads me to believe that they're far too inaccurate for precise movements such as these. There's also the problem that your finger would cover up things you need to see while tweaking. Myself I prefer a trackball. Half the time I can't keep a mouse still when hitting the button. Running at 1600x1200 requires the mouse to be set pretty fast too. I should actually look for a utility to make the caps lock key toggle a slower mouse setting temporarily.

3JDamon,

Look in the settings for the mouse, and play around with the accaleration. If i am right you can set it so it has higgh resulution when you move it slowly, but if you move it fast it will fly off the screen. Should help you keep the mouse on the pad, and stop make clicking a small nightmare (i know what you mean, i have the same problem with tablets. They drive me crazy....20 tries to click on OK.... )

(to change the settings, go to the control panel/mouse properties/pointer options. Set "pointer speed" around the middle, and check "enhance pointer precision.)

Or you can hold down
Ctrl + click the fader
and when u move up and down
it moves the fader alot slower

it also works for panning
and plugins
