Update 7.3 TDM to 12
A couple of years ago I bought an PT HD upgrade for PT 12 with an activation card and iLok. For various and mostly useless reasons and excuses, I never did the upgrade, but would now like to.
Current system is PT 7.3 HD2 on a 2006 cheesegrater and 192's for the interface. I've read threads here and all over trying to find out if I can upgrade using this gear, or do I need to purchase HDX cards and interfaces. Advice is appreciated. |

Re: Update 7.3 TDM to 12
TDM cards only go up to 10.3.10, if you want 12 you need HDX

Re: Update 7.3 TDM to 12
But the 192's will work on the newer cards(HDX and HD/Native). Since you have the cheesegrater, a used HDN card(around $700) might make good sense.
Having said that, what are the specs of the Mac and is it compatible with PT12?

Re: Update 7.3 TDM to 12
I've been looking for one, that price is not too bad. I'll keep at it. Right now I'll go to 10, but I'd rather go to 12.
thanks! |

Re: Update 7.3 TDM to 12
Also, Dave, I meant to add, if I upgrade only to 10, I can keep this Mac 1,1 and upgrade to OS 10.6, I've already added 16GB memory.
If I can find an HD Native card, I'll need to get a new cheesegrater to get all the way up to 12. So, I'd be looking at a 5,1, at least 16GB memory. I had not realized that an HD Native PCIe card would do what I needed. I kept thinking I would need an HDX capable I/O along the lines of a new model 192. so, more research is required. Thank you! Yessir, I've known that going to 12 would mean a new(er) computer, and I'm good with that. Your specs listed above will be most helpful in the search. I'm kinda tied to Mac, it's been good for me for a very long time. But, just to be clear, you're saying and HD Native PCIe card will run a pair of TDM-era 192's? I use the extra outputs to drive a 16 channel cue system, and I'd rather not have to deal with latency issues for headphones. Thanks so much for your response, this has been quite the journey. Next time, I'll just rob a bank and go all the way. |

Re: Update 7.3 TDM to 12
Yes original Mac Pro models are supported until 10.7.5 which means you can use TDM cards with latest PT10 release, but if you want anything more current you will need to get more current computer and more current card(s) either HDN or HDX to keep using your 192 interfaces.
