Pro Tools 8 Download on Release Day

As we have all been hearing from long time Duc members (BradLyons & albee1952) who have visited the Pro Tools 8 Sneak Peek events & have decent contacts: Pro Tools 8 will not be available as an instant download on its day of release. Buy the boxed version as it will be the only Pro Tools 8 version available on the day of release....

How true is that really? We hear these from Duc members who heard from other people....but no official statement from Digidesign itself....

The Digidesign website says the download version of Pro Tools 8 will be available on the day of release....unless they worded that the wrong way, it looks like the DOWNLOAD WILL BE AVAILABLE ON DAY ONE.

DIGIDESIGN...can you please give us all 100% confirmation on what is going to happen on DAY ONE?

I agree, I think that it will be available as download on release day. I know that Digi has many servers all over the world in place to handle the downloads, and their download manager will allow you to pause and come back later to finish.

Why do we need to buy them from the DIGI store whan the

That doesn't make sense.

But then, in another thread, Sweetwater told me that they will be shipping next week. That shouldn't mean a download, right?

Does anybody have any idea how much it will cost to upgrade? I have LE 7.4 right now and will not be eligible for a free upgrade since I bought my 003Rack back in Feb.

I think the upgrade (according to Guitar Center) is about 150, and (according to the GC site) it will ship the 18.

That doesn't make sense.

You have the option of buying the boxed version with install disks from your dealer OR downloading the files (14+gb) from Digi. IF you download the file and want hard copies of the disks, you may purchase them from the digistore after you have downloaded the content. You do not have to, but its an option. Like someone else said, just download and burn the files to a couple DVDs and there you have it .
