Default Import Session Data not Showing All Tracks

I want to import the plugins and settings from one session into another session, using the Match tracks option within the import process. However, when I look at the import session data screen, I am not seeing all of the tracks listed that do exist in the session. Why am I not seeing all tracks?

I may be wrong on this but, here's what I think is going on: You are most likely only seeing the tracks that match. Using the Match Tracks function is usually(to my understanding) used to import audio onto existing tracks(from one session, into another session). If you want the tracks with existing plugins, just import everything and skip the Match Tracks option.

Another option is to open the session that has the plugins and save those as Track Presets.

Yet another option is to open the session with the tracks and plugins you want, Save as Template(without media). Then, create a new session for the next song, using that template. Then use Import Session Data AND use Match Tracks. However you choose to do it, realize that there is a lot going on "under the hood" to make this happen

Tracks have to match width and type.

So if you do an import session data and the track in the active (current) session is a stereo audio track and the one you are trying to import is mono to that stereo track, the dropdown list won't show that mono track as an option for the stereo track.

Same for doing something like importing aux plugins/settings to an audio track. Won't show up as an option.

Thanks for the insightful reply. In my situation, I already recorded ten songs with a live drummer. I engineered the plugins after the takes using the first of ten songs, wanting to then apply the plugins from these eight drum tracks onto the matching tracks of the other nine songs.

I consider myself the evening idiot for today because the reason I wasn't seeing the drum tracks on the import session data screen is because the dialog that showed me the file happened to be an earlier version of the session in a different folder location, and because I was simply seeing the correctly spelled session name on the screen when the dialog first appears, I thought I was selecting the newer version.

Lesson learned here to expand the top drop-down selector to make sure the file location is in fact the location where the correct version exists for import.

I haven't created any templates yet, but I can see where they might be useful. In the case of tracking drums, I would tend to think the engineering has to happen after the takes since every drum kit will be different, along with the different aspects that come from the recording space.
