Question CPU overload without doing anything

Hi,
I'm a french and fresh Pro Tools M-Powered 8 user
I have the following problem with this new sequencer:
The CPU climbs to 60% when I launch a blank session. Without doing anything
No others programms running, only PT8 (cs2)
I reinstall my system yesterday to be sure to have a "clean" installation.
I have a PC (Offline) running Windows XP SP3 (With IE6).
The system is optimized for DAW (Unused devices/services are disabled, windows "visual effects" are disabled. Virtual Memory, Regedit blahblah... You know etc...)
My hardware is READY for Digidesign PT8 (I've read several times all the recommandations and bought a 2nd disk for my recordings)
My processor is a Pentium 4 (3 Ghz BI processor) but everything was fine on the old system/installation with Ableton Live with many (MANY) plugins so what happened with PT?

I launched the DPC latency. Always in the green. Everything's OK.

Actually I have PT8 since I installed Windows XP Pro. So it isn't a problem with plugins.

The only problem I saw is that my Firewire PCI card (TI chipset) for my M-Audio ProFire 610 has a virtual IRQ 18. But I can't change it even if I place the card on an other PCI slot

Any others ideas?

Thx

Hi there NailZ,

Good to see you on the DUC.

It very much sounds like an issue more people (im one off them) have troubles with. There is a big thread for this in the LE section.

http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=236239

What can I say...Digi is working on it...thats for sure...a solution and when? ....well... i dunno The only thing I could do at this point is going back to 7.4. I'm about to build me an i7 rig and hope to go back to 8.0.

Hi Ludia.
Thank you for your answer.
Indeed it seems that this problem is well known on the web but I wasn't sure to be concerned because most of the threads I saw where about Mac or Upgrade from 7 to 8.
But it's the same problem for me

It's quite frustrating because I bought a new M-Audio soundcard/hardware disk and PT8 to begin "seriously" to finalize the tracks for my 1st EP.

But I prefer to know that it's a "bug" and that Digidesign are working on it rather than to know that it's a CPU problem or some incompatibility with my PC.

I'll try some tests to see if the CPU falls when I minimize Pro Tools. Because It's really curious this graphical "bug" that the others members noticed

Wait and see

No bug. You're imagining it . It's your PC. Get over it.

Before we start a second and a same thread regarding this issue, I can asure you it is no imagination. As you can read in the other thread it is something that happens with about anyone. It is true ppl with a high performance rig don't suffer from this bug but even there it happens.

A little note aside, it is not about minimizing PT itself rather then minimizing the edit and mix window. Even on high performance rigs there have been reports that minimizing these windows reduces cpu usage.

Besides Digi itself agknowledged the issue and is working on a fix. The fix even, claimed by Digi, is this inmense that it is taking this long to come out.

Exactly, you're right.
When I minimize edit and mix windows my CPU "falls" to 10%

I spent cash for nothing... untill Digidesign publish a fix
And, that's my first Pro Tools so I can't get back to the previous version.
I can't do anything
