Shame the iOS compatibility has been dropped from the Avid version.

Anyone know if these will be available without the Pro Tools licence i.e. for existing users?

Not right now as it has to be the Avid "Black" edition and it comes with PT as far as I read this

I would probably get one for the hell of it if it wasn't forcing me to buy another license of PT11/10 as we use HD11 and already have 5 licenses in our studio

Well hopefully they will be availble later on but O wouldn't bet any "bitcoins" on that

It's a great idea. Don't reinvent the wheel + Apogee is starting to have some competition. So it's a win-win there.

But... Avid/Digi good old restrictive marketing sensibility and approach... What can I say. On one hand they're showing-off the ability of the Quartet to do 5.1 but stressing in the Q&A that the package can only do stereo.

That's really my position. I'm currently considering another/new interface and the smaller Apogees would be on my shortlist - as a Pro Tools user, the Avid versions should really be an option.

However, the possibility of working with my iPad give some brownie points to alternatives such as the SPL Crimson/Audient ID22 (apart from the 'standard' Apogees). The prices of the new Avid-branded Quartet (including Pro Tools without iOS-compatibility) would put current users into Symphony territory. I guess if the bundle was priced along the lines of the current Eleven Rack bundle, where the licence appears all but free (likely only possible as this is genuine Avid hardware, not a third party's), it would be less of an issue ... but I believe the Eleven Rack has only been sold with Pro Tools so this might be part of a wider strategy to bring non-users into the 'family'?

Maybe Bruce could chime in and just rule in/out whether these interfaces will be made available without a licence in the not-too-distant future?

Or, if you already own PT11HD, can you sell the license for PT independently after you buy the Quartet?

I'd say it looks like they will be available separately later on since they are evoking using the Quartet as a companion interface with the newly released S3L-X.

Until they do this, there's nothing stopping you from buying the units and selling the software activation code.

That puts you close to the price of the regular Apogee ones, and leaves you with a Windows compatible unit that you can use with any Windows DAW (or Mac for that matter). You can just download the Windows or Mac drivers from the website for free.
