Default Protools 9

Why are we being charged $350? for this? I don't understand this scrutiny. Thats not fair and mind you I own 3 licenses of M-Powered.

If understand correctly it includes DV Tool kit.

Which is worth it alone for me.

Correct me if I am wrong on that.

There are some great features in PT9, including automatic delay compensation, timecode rulers, omf/aaf import (stuff that used to cost a $$$)! Oh...and now you can work standalone... no interface needed! (I think)...great for laptops.

Does anyone know if upgrading from M-Powered 8 to PT 9 will affect the onboard software mixer that comes with M-Audio hardware?

Good question. My guess is that will be driver dependent, and unless M-audio stops making audio interfaces, they should keep distributing drivers to work with their gear. People do use their interfaces with DAWs other than Pro Tools.

After being a Pro Tools user for about 10 years. And switching to M-Powered a number of years ago, I'm really disappointed the M-Powered upgrade is $100 more than the LE version. We all paid the same for the PT8 upgrade so why not now? The $349 price point pretty much freezes me out of upgrading, as I can't justify it for a project studio. At $249 I might have just bit the bullet and upgraded though. I started using Presonus Studio One earlier this year as an alternate DAW, and to free myself from the interface dongle, and to get myself ADC. But I prefer Pro Tools.

Any other M-Powered folks a little ticked about the price?

Personally, I don't understand it either. It seems that if one has a PT 9 iLok asset on their iLok, they can do a fresh install of PT 9.
It'll be interesting to see how this one shakes out.

Yes, however I believe the $350 price tag is because LE had some features that M-Powered did not. So M-Powered users are having to pay extra as PT9 includes those features (and more) that only LE had at the time. I can't remember at the moment what they are but I think they are video related. Don't quote me on that.
