Two S1 cost vs one second Artist Mix difference is still huge. Is it worth it? What do you get w/S1 that you don't w/AM, do you think?

For one, 8 soft keys to program how you want with a "shift layer" (so 16 virtual.) Those are invaluable. (soon to be 16 soft keys when they become independent per S1 (32 virtual).) I couldn't go back to not having those (I've got scrolling options, clear solo, my master layout recall, input enable, and toggle volume automation view)

They are also narrower.

And, personally, I'm glad the spongey see-through buttons of the Artist Mix are gone in favour of the hard plastic buttons (that feel like more feedback.)

Better faders. Better knobs that are actually usable. Color feedback. Better mute / solo buttons.

Depends if those things are worth it. Also realistically you can buy a new one with warranty unlike the AM.

I have 2 S1's and I never use the iPad holders. I have my computer monitor kinda close behind it just over the top of the S1's so it's below my control room monitors and it works great. I don't miss having the iPads on there whatsoever.

You could also run Avid Control Desktop and it would show all the meters that would have been on the S1's tablet on your monitor instead (of course, losing some monitor space)

Thanks guys very helpful and lots to contemplate, I think having the Console 1 is a big influence on what we will get.

Looking to order a single S1 and see how it works out, be cool to compare to the Artist Mix too!

Hey Ben, we have had 2 x S1s for a number of weeks now - originally we had 1 but within a week I ordered another :)

Compared to the Artist Mix, I just think the S1 is better in every way. Better faders, buttons, knobs, resolution, displays, user keys and the S1 runs very fast when switching pages or menu diving.

If I had known the S1 is this much better than the Artist Mix I would have gotten an S1 a long time ago...

We replaced a Softube Console 1 and Artist Mix combo with 2 x S1s and are really happy with the upgrade. The real power is with custom mapping plugins that display on the S1s, which we have set up so the same parameters line up on the displays with a variety of 3rd party plugins.

The problem for me is the price. Everything is expensive here in Norway, so 2 x S1 would cost about $3200 USD, and that's without the tablets. That's why I'll be sticking with my Artist Mix and hopefully be getting a second one for a few hundred dollars secondhand.
