Default Auto Expand Custom Mapping

Hi,

beside that the really great new automapping feature, I have one question.

is there a way to auto-expand a plugin that's been opened on the workstation with the mouse to both custom mapped faders and poties? I mean without pressing INSERT and then the plugin on the console?

I have INSERTS selected in the Auto expand function of the user settings.
could someone guide me?

thanks
kava

Yes. Here's what you need. The Following would accomplish this.

Clicking in Pro Tools on a Plug-In Insert (or Pan window or Send) will Attention the track which contains it and then populate the chosen plug-in into both Expand Knob 1 and Expand Faders. If it's classified as a DYN or EQ plug-in and you want to leverage the Insert Parameters (teal) map because you tweaked it, then also enable Show EQ and DYN Plug-Ins as Inserts if there's an Insert Custom Map.

Hi Jeff
Thank you for guiding me,

Exactly at this point the confusion starts for me

my console was already set like in your screenshot.
but - If I click on a track that has a for example a FBQ3 inserted - the Q3 expands to the knobs - with the built in standard layout.

If I click on the plugin, the q3 opens in protools and on the console my CUSTOM map gets expanded to the knobs (but not to the also mapped faders), this is very confusing.

so the custom faders only appear if I press [INS] on the track then Q3 - they don't appear when I click on the plugin (expand faders is ON)

So I am right that DYN and EQ Plugins can expand to their standard and custom layout depending on the way they are selected?

I wanted to achive the following workflow for example...

1.) clicking on a (non EQ/DYN) plugin in PT that has a cutom map, like SPANNER or ANYMIX.
2.) after the click my custom map expands to the exp.faders and exp.knobs.

is this possible?

thanks
kava

To use Expand Faders this way you would need to allocate a dedicated on Attention Expand Fader bucket (Surface > config) - and make sure it is enabled (not suspended). It sounds like what you are describing would be considered a local Expand - pushing in to a particular Insert to access the expand fader on the lower faders within the same bucket.

Yes. Also - currently that pref (Show EQ and DYN Plug-Ins as Inserts if there's an Insert Custom Map) is only part of the equation when you explicitly click on a plug-in from the DAW (Pro Tools) which is classified as a DYN or EQ plug-in. If you leverage the other triggers like Track Name, Edit Selection Move Up/Down, etc -> those don't know which function you want to invoke -> and so they follow the Home > Local Options for on Attention -> populate the Expand Knobs and Faders as you configured there.

One more bit here.

If you want to prefer the custom Insert Parameter map for say - Pro-Q3, set your Home > Local Options to bring up a specific Insert instead of EQ on attention. If you simply want a modified dedicated EQ (magenta) view of Pro-Q3, make a 4x8 custom map for dedicated EQ and specify on attention to bring up EQ in the expand knob zone.
