Default eSata Card w/ Macbook Pro

Hey guys,

I have an early 2008 Macbook Pro that still has the PCMCIA slot (pre-unibody design). I purchased a $12 eSata card from Monoprice.com and it seems to work really well with Pro Tools, haven't had any weirdness happen as of yet with my minimal testing - fast access speed, best I've ever had on my laptop. The only thing I notice is that I cannot boot from any drive connected to the card, nor will it even go to the boot menu if the card is inserted, so I need to make sure it's ejected each time on startup.

Is this normal? What cards have others used with success?

Just have to make sure to disconnect the drives before pulling the card each time, and also I have to be careful not to bump it as it ejects easily that way. Otherwise, pretty solid purchase for 12 bucks!

Thanks everyone,
Sig

I bought mine at Fry's for around $35. I forgot the brand name, iConnect or something, nothing special. Never had a single problem with it.

It's just the nature of the ExpressCard slot for it to come out easily. Maybe your's is crazy sensitive but it doesn't matter if it's our Symphony card or the eSATA we have to be careful around it.

There have been reports of data corruption with eSATA cards and the MacBook Pro.
