Default Temperature monitor software for OS9?

I've got a dual boot G4, I want to be able to keep tabs on the cpu temp. I can do this when I boot in OSX with the freeware "Temperature Monitor," but I can't seem to find anything about whether there's a way to do this in Os9 as well.

Was there ever any software for OS9 that can do this?

I use Gauge Pro on my G3s. Never tried it on the G4 in 9, but it's worth a shot.

Thanks Mbrane. I'll check this out.

I did buy MAChspeed 3, which is advertised to report temps... but it doesn't, at least not with my dual 1.0 G4. Just a heads up for anyone that is curious.

M.Brane, I got a chance to test your Gauge pro....

No luck, it seems to think that I have a PowerPC 601 x2(!) with no level 2 or level 3 cache.

And of course, "Not available" for CPU temperature.

It's funny how it's so easy to get a temp reading when the exact same machine is booted in OSX, but it seems to be totally futile to do in 9. It's obvious that the computer must have some knowledge of temperature in OS9, because the fans still kick in to keep the temps down.

Oh well, At least I know my next solution will work(A fan controller with temp probes and temperature readout).

Oh well.

I don't even have the option of TM in X with my processor upgrade. I have to feel the temperature of the CPU, GPU, and PSU fan's exhaust with the back of my hand.

Fortunately due to some re-engineering of Apple's airflow management they are never more than moderately warm, and the fans are virtually inaudible.

I'll let you know how my mod works, the fan controller comes with two of those paper thin temp sensor strips, I'm going to stick one inbetween the processor and heatsink, and probably put the other on the hard drive. What I'm hoping for is to have this control 2 additional silenx fans that I added on. If these keep the cpu cooler than 59 celsius, I won't have to listen to the main fan kick on and off.

Okay, here's what I ended up doing. I used a Sycthe Kaze master fan controller/temp display, which happens to have the same mirror finish as the empty opto drive bay of my g4. Pictures don't do it justice, it's pretty hard to see how cool it looks when the display is lit. The temp readings are very accurate for the cpu, within 1 degree of what the motherboard detects in OSX.

While I had this apart I punched a lot of 7/8 holes in the steel frame of the case to help with airflow. My next mission is to put a 250mm fan on the side(what is now the top since it's rack mounted). Just waiting for the parts.

Sweet! Looks like it was made that way.

I used the Zip bay in my DA to mount a USB/FW hub:

You can check out the airflow mods I did to it here:
