Default Preamp Connection

I have i 2 channel micpre that I run to the 003 ins 5&6. Is there any way I can set this up so I don't always have to go to the back of the micpre to plug in my mic. Could I work something out with my tt patchbay?? Thanks guys - N8V

Well, you can but I tend to avoid any un-needed connections(keep the audio path short and sweet...er..clean). In my previous one-room setup, O just ran mic cables out from the preamps and labeled the ends as LA610, ISA-1, ISA-2 as I usually had no more than 2-3 mics up at a time. The cables would stay plugged into the preamps and get coiled up against the wall when not used. With my new setup, I also skipped using a patchbay and ran 2 lines from my vocal booth to 2 mic pre's, 8 lines (1 thru 8)from my drum room go straight to a Presonus Firestudio and 9/10 from the drum room go to 2 more mic pre's. In both scenarios, I rarely had to go behind the rack or 003. I also keep my Motif patched into the 003 line inputs on 1&2 so I never have to chase those cables(I even ran a cable from the headphone out of the Motif to an extra input on a Presonus Central Station so I can listen to the keyboard without opening Pro Tools).

Thanks for your response Albee, I guess I can do that for now, but soon I will have my own live room and vocal booth, any options with that?

It depends on how many mic lines you want from each room(live room&vocal booth). I have 16 lines from my live room but generally use 8-10. (my live room is not very big)

Ill be running 16 from the live room as well, and probably 4 from the vocal booth. I guess if I go from the tie panels to the patch bay (normaled to my existing 8 pre Ins), I can patch the mic signal out of the bay to the Ins on the preamp, then out of the pre into the 003, does that make sense haha? I know the less connection in the signal flow the better the quality but do you think I'll lose a lot by doing this?
