Why pro tools HD don't have this option?? I think it would be chose in some preferences.... like others software have.
Digi, it's a problem introduce a preference for the panning law ?
At the moment i'm using it at -3db and I find it good, but I think that -4.5 it would be better for me.

If you changed it to -4.5 then, when your mixes are listened to as a MONO PROGRAM (AM radio or MONO MP3), your center channel stuff will be too soft.

Don't mess with the math!!

There are two options: stereo mixer uses -3.0 pan law and surround mixer uses -2.5 (I use the latter)

Yes,surround mixer set the pan law at -3.

I asked if it could be changed becouse on cubase and logic you can chose the pan law.

Eric ... what math you talking about? if I mix with the pan law at -4,5 I take care of my center section, so in my final stereo file it will be ok. If you listen in mono it would be ok.

Change the pan law cange the way of mixing , not the way of listen the final mix on radio.

Just to explain again how to change the mixer to dithered or surround dithered!

Close pro tools

go to the digidesign folder situated in system drive/library/app support/digidesign

in this digidesign folder you'll find the "plugins" folder and the "un-used plugins" folder.

take the stereomixer.dpm plugin from the "plugins" folder and place it in the "un-used plugs" folder

Take the stereodithered or the surround dithered mixer (if want to try the surround mixer which can still be used for normal stereo mixing!) from the "un-used plugs" folder and place it in the "plugins" folder.

Now when you reboot PT you will be using one of the dithered mixers.

Yes you can use the surround mixer for normal stereo work!
trade-off? might use a bit more Chip space!
Obviously, you don't use dithered versions unless you want to.
