Default audio engine error message upon trying to open a session

I'm having a problem with PT 9.

Everytime I try to open a session, I would ALWAYS get this message,

"Could not complete the Open Recent Session 2 command because while translating Audio Engine Settings".

Even while pressing "n" to change the audio device driver to the right one during startup of PT, doesn't help. Everytime I try to open a session, it always now gives me this message, and I can't do anything with PT at all!

Complete uninstall and reinstalled 3 times. Still the same problem.

Another thing is, I've tried finding all the ASIO Direct X Duplex drivers on my OS and deleting them, because I know PT has a particular susceptibility to recognizing audio devices and the simple act of switching between them (often it just doesn't work).

Despite deleting all the ASIO DX Duplex drivers I've found on my OS, PT STILL shows a ASIO Duplex driver in the "Playback Engine" menu! How do I get rid of this thing?

Any help appreciated....thanks.
