Default Working in LE7 at the Root Level

Does anyone know if it's okay to run LE 7 at the root level? Wondering if there would be advantages or disadvantages to doing this.
Thanks

I guess it would work fine but not having tried it myself, I can't be sure. A good question for Digi. Perhaps their developers run in root while working on the code.
I assume it could possibly eliminate some problems with file permissions. The obvious issues here are security related. You are probably aware of this. Is it going to be connected to the Internet? Will the computer log in to root at start up? During a session when you go to take a break, are there going to be people/clients around who you would rather not have access to your data? Remember, they could potentially f**k up anything on there. I would recommend against it but if you must at least use a hard to guess password.

My 2¢

Forgive my ignorance, but what do you mean, work at the root level?

Thanks. I just logged in at the root level and try to launch Pro Tools, and got an error message that said you can't run Pro Tools as root—that you have to be logged in at the administrator level. I was just curious about this. No big thang.

I meant when logged on as a root user. This is the system administrator level as opposed to the basic administrator level. Some Digi support docs recommend logging in as the root to trash Digi databases and repair permissions when troubleshooting.
