Shift by samples not working
This hasn't worked for a few versions recently but no one seems to have brought it up so it's probably not used v much.
1. New session, view "Bars/Beats" in main edit window 2. 1 new track 3. Create some audio (I just selected a bar's length and pressed shift-alt-3) 4. Edit->Shift, and try moving the audio later by, say, 4 samples - http://duc.avid.com/attachment.php?a...1&d=1456676836 5. View "Samples" in the main window and you'll find it won't have moved at all....http://duc.avid.com/attachment.php?a...1&d=1456676886 The minimum I could get, using 48kHz @ 120bpm was 20 samples, and even then it moves to 25 samples... http://duc.avid.com/attachment.php?a...1&d=1456677236 http://duc.avid.com/attachment.php?a...1&d=1456677260 |

Re: Shift by samples not working
Same problem for me.
Always used the shift function to create a shift of a known sample value. That was working fine on ProTools 10. Since ProTools 11 and until now (ProTools 12.5), the shift function always goes to the closer subframe value (or frame if Use Subframes box is not checked) despite the precise value in samples. Problem is subframe is not as precise as sample! This is very annoying and leave this function totally useless for me now. Please fix this! |

Re: Shift by samples not working
Should definitely file a bug report (I haven't confirmed as I don't use the "shift" dialog), but FWIW, nudging by specific sample values seems to work just fine.

Re: Shift by samples not working
Did this ever get solved?
I have PT12 now, and the Shift Dialog is worthless. 1) it won't let me enter in millisecs anymore 2) and even if it did, it doesn't care WHAT i enter, it refuses to obey my command. In MIN:SEC or BAR|BEAT. Regardless of the session, content, anything. I've used the Shift dialog for years in PT8 and before, and find it superior to all other methods of moving regions/MIDI, esp when one knows the amount and doesn't want to hassle with grabbing multiple unaligned regions. Am I the only one suffering? Mac 10.12 PT HD 12 |

Re: Shift by samples not working
Maybe its me, but I'm not clear on what the problem is. Are you guys not simply nudging audio? Could it be as easy as changing command choice? The + and - keys nudge fine in samples(100 is my usual nudge value) Full disclosure; I have never used the command you guys are describing

BUT - once i went to test in other versions of PT (see list) the issue went away !!!! PT 11.3.2 - WORKS !!! PT12.4.294 - WORKS !!! PT12.5.2.511 - WORKS !!! PT12.6.1634 - WORKS !!! PT12.7.1.733 - WORKS !!! here is what i found at 48k .. and 44k and so on WHEN IT Did NOT Work !!!!! so i know you guys are not Crazy !!!! 1) Main Counter in Samples Mode 2) Grid in 1 sample mode 3) Nudge in 1 sample mode 4) select Clip 5) Edit>Shift - 47 samples - NOTHNG MOVES 6) Edit>Shift - 48 samples - Success so, if you reproduce with 44.1 you will find 5) 43 samples - FAIL & 6) 44 samples - PASS so this is based on the sample rate .. you can Shift less than One Second of Sampling Rate cheers john

Thanks for this research! Now I have to find out why the counter refuses my input when my timeline is set to Min:Sec (it rarely is set to samples). Mine happens with milliseconds, mainly. And it's not only the Shift Dialog, but the main counters, too. They refuse input in the small field. May be beyond this scope of the OP. |
