Default Moving across the pond (Mac to PC) Help needed

OK, I'm in a bind and my g3 just aint kicking it the way we used too. I'm taking a leap of faith and believing everyone telling me a p4 will run ptle just fine. i purchased a Dell 4550 with a 2.5 processor it has 256mb ram out the box.(I'll get some new sticks this weekend.) I downloaded the 5.3 exe. on another computer then brang it over via CDR. I installed the card ,PTLE 5.3 and quicktime 5.0. I opened up a new project and went to record off the analog inputs and wham it tells me the buffer is set too low. I change it and it now says it's too high. Do i need more ram to run this thing or am I just PC stupid? I cant seem to get it to do anything but open. anyone have an idea what I'm doing wrong??????

You'll probably see major improvements with just a little more ram. I've run into these probs before (also on systems w/ little ram), sometimes setting the default record time in the preferences seemed to help.

what operating system do you have?

I hope someone points you to the right direction since I´m not familiar with PT5.3. However I did have the same problem with 5.1 and WinMe, I had to get rid of the ¨Ultra (Intel?)storage driver, install a generic(microsoft) disk driver and enable DMA on all drives.
You can find step by step instructions on how to do this. It´s really not that hard at all.

good luck.

The storage driver thing is all in the past and doesn't exhist anymore. With XP you won't have to change anything, although I don't like the idea of a cluttered Dell PC

You probebly dont want to hear this, but you should have asked us about your PC before you paid for it. We have 'the ultimate PC for under a grand' thread which is always updated with the best parts, And its alot cheaper that a dell pre built system, and its designed with only 1 thing in mind, the best PT performance. LOL well I thought about that sys but I got a great deal on it and didn't have to come out of pocket except for more ram. As far as it being a preconfiged sys, i figured there should be little conflicts as i'm only adding 1 piece of hardware. I do hate the fact it came jam packed with all these programs I wil neve use (norton, ms office, aol etc............). It's running Xp home and the install went smooth It seems it needs more ram which I plan on getting this weekend anyway. BTW 5.3 looks and acts like 5.1 does as far as I can see. I haven't recorded yet to get into true editing but we'll see.

Yeah, you want at least 512mb ram, is it DDR? If so thats a good thing.

Also 5.3 is the same as 5.1 ecxept that its 32tracks not 24tracks.
