Smile Pro Tools 10 HD with TDM system

I am running a HD3 accel tdm system with all the avid virtual instruments, native instruments kontakt using vienna ensemble pro5, command8, contour design shuttle pro2 on a macpro 1,1 with a modified cpu (8core 2,66ghz instead of the original quadcore) 16gb ram

would like to add my transition from pt9hd to pt10hd was smooth and almost entirely trouble free. I had to reassign and rename my personal I/O settings and I was done. my entire structure library is still there and was immediately found by the plugin(I did not install the core sample library again but kept the old structure library where it was as it is the same as it was in pt9), all the new aax plugins are working just fine and therefor it might be interesting for other users to switch to pt10hd as you can continue using your tdm plugins and switch to aax virtual instruments versions as soon as they are available to have a better native performance than using rtas VI. conclusion: for those of us keeping their tdm systems and having the ability to use aax native at the same time for virtual instruments pt10hd can be an interesting option.

Hi,

The only AAX versions available in TDM HD systems will be the native versions (Identical to using RTAS) so you won't gain anything by using AAX versions unfortunately.

maybe I am wrong but as far as I understand there will be benefits from using AAX native versions of VI instead of using the RTAS versions as they shall be more efficient using less cpu power. this way you shall be able to use TDM dsp plugins for eq comps whatever and going NATIVE AAX for VI instead of RTAS (once they are available) on pt10hd.

Anyone who told you that would be making pure speculation about something that hasn't even been coded yet. Chris is correct, and the only potential VI performance bump will come from Pro Tools 11 because it will be 64 bit, and that won't benefit any TDM user as 11 won't work with TDM.
