Default Direct Connect - DISCONNECTING BUG

I'm using Direct Connect to get Unity DS-1 into ProTools 5.0.1. The system works pretty well in general, but the plugins of Direct Connect can get "lost".
I might have four inputs, each with a Direct Connect plugin, monitoring channels 1 thru 4 of Unity. At random, these plugins get confused and monitor something different - audio from 4 arrives at input 2, and so on. The plugin displays that it is monitoring 2, but still provides audio from 4. I have to manually reset each one to make it work properly.
I'm using the latest versions of all software. Opening the session gives me "lost" plugins virtually all the time.
Digi, is it your fault or Bitheadz?

Digi Please check this out before 5.1 release! I have a similar problem. When opening a session that has DC & Unity ,it does communicate until I open OMS and do a test on Unity. Then I close OMS. Unity then works. I have the MOTU 1.15b1 extension and still does not help!

saltminer,
As far as I know, is the first report of this behavior. I will be attempting to reproduce this behavior, but I don't know if my 160MB RAM will give me enough "breathing room" for both applications. In the meantime, please post the following:
What version of DirectConnect?
What Computer?
What Mac OS?
How Much RAM?

MARVINBASS,
Although I am using the serial version of the MOTU MIDIExpress XT, I have not yet experienced this behavior. Maybe someone else who is running a MOTU USB interface will read this and post similar behavior.

-BTW, I am running OMS 2.3.8 and FreeMidi 1.45 ("use OMS when available" option checked in the FreeMidi preferences).

Brent

Hi Brent! I'm running: G4/400(1gig ethernet) 512Ram,OS 9.0.4, PT5.0.1,DAE 5.0.1cs3,OMS 2.3.8, Free Midi 1.45, Magma 7 slot :Mix core,3 Mix Farms,1 Farm, Unity v2.1.0* This may be a USB problem w/ the latest G4's* Please investigate! (FYI: another odd thing, is that ocassionally, the G4 will not shut down with the MTP/AV connected. It will just restart again. I have to unplug the USB cable to get it to shut down) Previous G4 did not do this.

Marvinbass-

The usb problem is just that...a usb problem. Are there new drivers for you midi box? Our G4 does that is we have anything except the usb keyboard hooked up.

I TOO EXPERIENCE THE UNITY/DIRECT CONNECT DISCONNECT BUG on a regular basis.

Biege G3/512 ram/mac os 8.6/pt5.0.1/magma with 3 mix cards and 3 samplecell II cards.

Hi Digi,
my version of Direct Connect is 1.0.1. All ProTools parts are off the 5.0.1 CD. I'm running a Mac dual processor G4/500, OS 9.0.4. Version of Unity is 2.1 (the latest).
Thanks for looking into it.

saltminer and others,
-I have been both following this thread and trying to reproduce this behavior on my machine. Up until this point, I have not been able to reproduce this problem (mixed up audio through different instantiations of DC).

-However, I must admit that my tests have not been that complex. Since I am running a system with only 160MB RAM, I am not sure if my problems are happening as a result of having insufficient RAM:
-I can get one instantiation of Unity going without problems (MIDI track triggering channel 1 of Unity and a stereo Aux with Unity stereo 1 output).
-Add another MIDI/Aux track combo (Unity channel 2 with stereo out 2 selected) and choose a patch, as soon as I go into record communication between PT and Unity for channel 2 is cut off (MIDI data is still recorded in PT, but no audio). Channel 1 is still fine.
-When I stop recording and play back the session both patches from Unity will be triggered (but not always).

-Has anyone else had silimar behavior?
-Maybe someone can post their workflow?

Brent

Sometimes Unity seems to semi-crash, or some part of the multi-processor intelligence in the Mac goes whacko, to suddenly limit Unity to only 3 voices. I have to restart to get things going properly again. I normally can run about 48 voices (not that I try that often).
I've been using Logic synced to ProTools to provide my Midi for Unity, sending it direct and not via OMS. I've not experienced the problems you mention.

Brent, If you notice, Saltimer and I are having this problem on the latest G4. You must test this on these machines!
