Default Any Pro Tools reveals from NAB 2024?

I don't attend NAB (not my wheelhouse) but it sounds like Avid was publicly showing off some new Pro Tools features.

Most seemed focused on Media Composer interoperability, as noted in this Pro Tools Expert article.

This includes the seen-at-NAMM demos of ARA integration for RX, Auto-Align, and RePitch, but also an interesting functionality for importing comments if you use Dropbox Relay.

But yesterday someone shared this new Show Tracks... command (photo) and I was actually jumping up and down with excitement for June.... or September.

Anyone else see anything (that was shown publicly) worth telling us devoted DUC nerds?

Oh nice. Something I've wanted. But I hope that also means "select tracks with clips" is also added. From there a lot can be done that's been needed for awhile. Because the real thing I want is to be able to select empty audio tracks (to delete or hide)

(yes you could show tracks, then invert selection, then blah blah blah but that's a lot of unnecessary steps for something that should have been there from the beginning)

I do this all the time, with one button, using Soundflow.

Hey Kerry,

There was so much they did show that they I guess it was not show much online as I would have hoped, but we should see things coming in June most likely. Things are in alpha now, but not in beta quite yet. That's all I can share for now. I only heard this a couple of days ago.

Yes. That's using a check script that checks each track one-by-one. I'm guessing you are using smaller sessions than me because that's not a workable solution when you have high track counts. Running that takes a few minutes each time. I could make a pot of coffee and walk my dog during the time that takes to complete. It's faster for me to do it manually at that point.
I'm hoping the news here is that Avid has added a "IsEmpty" track state to the track objects that can be queried. Currently there isn't which is why these operations can't be run in a snap. (other DAWs do have this which is why they also have had this functionality for decades)

I agree. As with many Soundflow scripts, it's a "hack" that doesn't scale well. It's also the kind of feature/command that I feel very strongly should be a function of the actual program. Shortcut/Macro devs have their place for more complicated and specific workflows, but something like this seems better served at the program-level.

Not true!

Here are some video examples. This demo session has 500 tracks, 494 of them are empty. Takes less than 5 seconds to delete all the empty tracks.

In this, same session, but hide/inactivate empty tracks:

G

If it was shown at a trade show, then what’s the issue with sharing what was shown publicly?

That is much faster than what was possible 4 years ago. And how Soundflow worked 4 years ago. It looks like it is interrogating the state of the track so they might have added the "is empty" state. When I get a moment, I'm going to look at Pro Tools track object hooks.
