I have installed the Pro Tools First software but I get an error message.
Can start because api-ms-core-winrt-string-l1-1-0.dll missing

Your profile says you have Windows 7. Is that correct? winRT is a part of Windows 8 and later. You can Google to learn what it is if interested.

You need to pay attention to minimum systems requirements when installing software. Especially anything from Avid.

Now why Avid developers cannot have basic compatibility checking and warning in their installers is beyond me.

And you can see my many other posts on DUC about why I would not use Pro Tools First.

The First download said it was good for win 7-8. I am using it because I purchased a Focusrite Audio interface that came with it & it also win 7 compatible?
Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you.

Running any recent version of Pro Tools is iffy at best in Windows 7.

Unless you specifically NEED Pro Tools, I would check out Reaper(free to try and cheap to buy) or Cakewalk by Bandcamp(formerly known as SONAR) which is free. Both are very capable DAW programs that should work on your setup

I just wanted Pro Tools because I have used it before when I bought an M-Audio Fast Track C600 unit, that I fried using the wrong power supply. I couldn't find any help with repairing it online & it appears M-Audio gives you no support?? I could repair it if I knew which component blew.
Thanks Dave.

I have tried Reaper, Audacity & garage band but prefer Pro Tools.

Just curious, Is this a file that's created during the install of Pro Tools or is it already in Win 10?

As I already said. "winRT is a part of Windows 8 and later. You can Google to learn what it is if interested".

You need to get off Windows 7.

Pro Tools First really is limited and flakey crippleware. It's not "Pro Tools". If you want Pro Tools I would get on Pro Tools standard. If you want it and value your time it's worth paying for a subscription. And upgrade your Windows system.
