Default Installing Pro Tools 8 and later on a new Mac

Hello to all,

Sorry if this is an annoying newbie question, but I couldn't find an answer on all the databases.

I was running PT 8 on my G5 (with the PowerPC chip) with the 002 rack. The G5 has died, and now I'll be getting another Mac--probably a used Mac Pro or iMac or maybe a new Mac Mini.

I initially had PT 6.4 LE, and then I upgraded to version 8.

I would upgrade to PT 10, but a friend who owns a post-production house (and who would like to give me some PT work) says that most work is still being done on 9.

How can I load version 8 (assuming I am using a compatible OS X version), when all I have are the ancient 6.4 installation CD and the version 8 upgrade DVD?

Also, can the 002 rack be used with PT 9 and 10?

Thanks everybody!

You will need a version 8 "full installer" in order to run Version 8. (OSX permitting)

And yes, the 002R will run PT9 and 10.

if it's new Mac with 10.8 then PT 8 is not approved (I would say not compatible be some people have hacked at it, but I would want to try and make money on a hack)

So, is there no way I can get a credit for the PT I already own--I have to buy the whole thing all over again?

You can buy an upgrade from PTLE (any version) to PT10, which is considerably less expensive than buying PT10 flat out.
Upgrades from LE to 10 are $399.00 (less if you shop around).

An LE to PT 10 upgrade requires a valid serial number from an 002/003/Mbox2/Mbox3.

The problem is that I can't load the original LE onto a new computer, to then allow me to apply the upgrade.

Check me if I am wrong, but I don't believe PT9 or 10 will run on a G5

The G5 is dead. It is the machine that had my PT8 on it. I will be loading the software on a new (to me) Mac. Going to see a promising used Mac Pro for sale tomorrow.

My problem is that I have no way to install the LE version onto a new computer so it can then be upgraded. I doubt the original 6.4 installer CD will work on an OS X higher than a 10.5. Or will it?
