Default Pro Tools LE with MBox and M-Audio ProjectMix I/O

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to this forum and the Pro Tools world.

I've purchased Pro Tools M-Powered 8 and an M-Audio ProjectMix I/O.

I'm curious what I should do if I purchase an MBox Pro Factory to travel with (I like to do live recordings of practices and gigs but don't want to haul the PJM everywhere)

I know the MBox pro factory comes with Pro Tools LE and a lot of extra stuff...I'm wondering if:

A) If I can use my PJM I/O with Pro Tools LE..or if I'd need two different copies installed because one system is an M-Audio...

B) If I have to keep M-Powered Pro Tools if an MBox would interface.

I'm assuming PJM will work with LE but correct me if I'm wrong.

I did a forum search and a google search and couldn't get the answer I'm looking for..

Thanks in advance for your input.

If you buy and M-audio interface, it works with Pro Tools M Powered. If you buy a Digidesign interface, it works with Pro Tools LE. That's pretty much the deal.

But you can still use the ProjectMix as a control surface for LE, just not an audio interface. You could buy the MBox and then run LE on the road, and then open them up at home to mix with the ProjectMix. Or you could just get a smaller m-audio interface, and only deal with one program. That probably is also the cheaper route.

It's pretty easy.

You set it up the same way you would if you were using M-Powered. Put it into Pro Tools mode, and assign it as a control surface under Peripherals.

You won't have any of the I/O available though.

As long as you have the same version number you can have both Mpowered and LE on the same system.

They will both share the same plugins.

If I understand you correct, you just want to be able to use both LE and M-Powered versions, using the appropriate interface for each.
I have several songs that were produced on LE system with my Digi001...I can still open up those files with my M-Powered system, despite not having the 001 any longer.
I guess the real question would be...can both versions exist within the same system? I've never tried it but now I'm curious.

I would suggest a small M-Audio Interface instead of the MBox and use it with your M-Powered version, as long as you don't need features that aren't supported with it (for example DV-Toolkit).
