Default Pro tools drivers problem

Hello. I'm running pro tools on this 'new' mac OSX 10.6.8. It's a HD2 system with two 192 racks. I've installed for TDM.
I'm having problems with the drivers, for example if i've had any sound from you tube/quicktime/finder running through the digidesign HW then pro tools won't open with the digidesign HW but insists on opening with pro tools aggregate. The same problems occur the opposite way round, so when pro tools is open (or has been open), i can't get any sound out of the 192.

Sometimes i can get control of the drivers again by closing all the programs, sometimes i have to actually restart the mac to be able to find digidesign HW again.

This is very annoying, as i like to use snapper (which increases audio functionality of finder). On the snapper video, it shows the guy dragging files direct from snapper to pro tools, obviously i can't do this because i can't have both running simultaneously. Logic9 works perfectly with snapper.

Any ideas where i might be going wrong? Is this likely to be something in OS or in pro tools? Any thoughts appreciated

Hi,

Best thing is to get a dedicated soundcard for the Mac or use the Mac audio. trying to revert back and forth with the digi hardware as always been a problem.

I use another soundcard and route it digitally into Pro Tools for listening to mac audio/ snapper /itunes/internet etc.

You can use the built-in audio for this as well.

Hi Chris. Thanks for responding. Yes, that is an option, but it's kind of annoying as i'll have to rejig the patchbay and mostly it's annoying as i used to be able to do all this stuff fine on the old mac.

Thanks though, it can be my fallback plan.
