Is NewEgg still everyone's preferred vendor? (I used to deal with Tiger Direct back in the day, but it's been years). Or Amazon? Or someone else???

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results
I recently ordered a PC from Digital Storm with these specs:
I'd like someone with experience to glace at it and let me know if it has any bottlenecks or weaknesses. I'll be running windows 11 and Protools 11 on it. The problem I'm having with my current i7 7700, 16g ddr4 ram is having to freeze all my tracks with plugins even at 64bit sample rate. Granted, my current PC probably isn't optimized as well as it could be, but I will certainly optimize my new one when it comes in. I just don't want to have to freeze tracks. Slate VMR is the one that causes most of the issues. Especially since I like to run it on most of my busses. Interface is a Scarlett 18i20 with octopre adat. That's the next thing to be upgraded, though latency hasn't been that bad with it, especially with direct monitoring. Go easy.. I'm still learning all this. I only switched from a tascam all in one daw a couple years ago. Processor: Intel Core i9-12900K (5.2 GHz Turbo) (24-Thread) (16-Core) 3.2 GHz (Alder Lake) Motherboard: ASUS Prime Z690-P D4 (Wi-Fi) (Intel Z690 Chipset) (Up to 3x PCI-E Devices) (No SLI) (DDR4) System Memory: 64GB DDR4 3200MHz Digital Storm Performance Series Power Supply: 850W Digital Storm Performance Series (Modular) (80 Plus Gold) Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Optical Drive: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 8x / CD-Writer 8x) (Internal) Storage Set 1: 1x SSD M.2 (1TB Digital Storm M.2 Performance Series) (NVM Express) Storage Set 2: 1x SSD M.2 (1TB Digital Storm M.2 Performance Series) (NVM Express) Storage Set 3: 1x Storage (2TB Seagate / Toshiba / Hitachi) RAID Config: - No Thanks RAID Card: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Graphics Card(s): 1x GeForce RTX 3070 8GB (VR Ready) Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Add On Card: - No Thanks Extreme Cooling: H20: Stage 2: Digital Storm Vortex Liquid CPU Cooler (Dual Fan) (Fully Sealed + No Maintenance) |

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results
Hello, I'm currently waiting for my new PC. Specs below.
I'm hoping an experienced eye can glace over them and let me know if I'm going to have a bottleneck or a weakest link. I know enough to know this PC will be capable, but I'm really asking: will I still have to freeze tracks if I optimize this PC well? My current/old PC is a i7 7700 with 16g ddr4 ram and I need to have every track frozen to be able to move on to recording a new one. Interface is a Clarett 18i20 with octopre adat. This is the next year to be upgraded, but latency is surprisingly not that bad. Slate VMR is my biggest CPU hog and I like to apply it to most of my buses. I'm getting nice mixes, but it's a process having to constantly watch my CPU. Go easy, I'm still new and learning. I only switched from an all in one tascam daw two years ago. New PC: Processor: Intel Core i9-12900K (5.2 GHz Turbo) (24-Thread) (16-Core) 3.2 GHz (Alder Lake) Motherboard: ASUS Prime Z690-P D4 (Wi-Fi) (Intel Z690 Chipset) (Up to 3x PCI-E Devices) (No SLI) (DDR4) System Memory: 64GB DDR4 3200MHz Digital Storm Performance Series Power Supply: 850W Digital Storm Performance Series (Modular) (80 Plus Gold) Optical Drive: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 8x / CD-Writer 8x) (Internal) Storage Set 1: 1x SSD M.2 (1TB Digital Storm M.2 Performance Series) (NVM Express) Storage Set 2: 1x SSD M.2 (1TB Digital Storm M.2 Performance Series) (NVM Express) Storage Set 3: 1x Storage (2TB Seagate / Toshiba / Hitachi) Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Graphics Card(s): 1x GeForce RTX 3070 8GB (VR Ready) Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Add On Card: - No Thanks Extreme Cooling: H20: Stage 2: Digital Storm Vortex Liquid CPU Cooler (Dual Fan) (Fully Sealed + No Maintenance) |

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results
Just curious, but how many USB ports do you all usually have on your builds? And how many of those are on the front of the tower? I have three on the front of my tower now with 4 in the rear, of which most are USB 3 ports. I'm thinking maybe 4 on the front for dongles and other easier connections such as the A/D interface etc. Thoughts on that?
Also, I have 4 internal HD's now with one external 1tb for my E/W libraries. In the new system I want all SSDs for the OS, the session drive, the sample drive, and the EW one. If all the SSD's were 1tb, I think I'd have way more than I need. Thoughts? Considerations? Thanks

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results
Has anyone created a matrix or spread sheet listing all the various currently recommended components to build a system...or at least the main ones. THere are so many different posts here of builds and such that it gets a bit confusing. So, I was hoping maybe someone had some kind of spread sheet showing things like:
SDD for OS, option 1,option 2, option 3 SDD for sessions/samples option 1, 2, 3 HDD for OS option 1,2,3 HDD for sessions option 1,2,3 CPU option 1,2,3 MOBO option 1,2,3 Graphic card option 1,2,3 DRAM option 1,2,3 etc etc. Does anyone have such a thing? It might help to have such if we don't.

Re: i7 Builds - Specs and Results
For me it's usually NewEgg, or sometimes my local Microcenter.

I'd connect the audio interface directly to a back-panel port on the MB, with a new cord. You could use a single drive for all. This: https://www.newegg.com/samsung-2tb-9...quicklink=true or this: https://www.newegg.com/western-digit...82E16820250160
