Default PT LE sudden crash on Mac OSX

I recently got a Powerbook G4 for my music system, and for the most part it has been much better than my old system (runs faster, no CPU or USB errors).
Powerbook G4 15"
Mac OSX 10.4.2
1.67 GHz
1.5 GB RAM
using Avastor firewire external drive
MBox
ProTools LE 6.92

However, I have a problem that happens occasionally after I have been using the laptop for a while. I will be cooking along mixing or whatever, and then suddenly ProTools just quits with no warning. One second it is operating normally, the next second it is gone. This is especially troublesome if I have Reason or another rewire app open, because then it is left hanging and I have to force quit and relaunch.

I am wondering if it is heat-related. It generally only happens after I have been using ProTools for a while, and happens most frequently when I do not have the laptop sitting on a desk (e.g. in my lap or on a lap desk). It also only happens to protools. I can be surfing the Web or even editing audio in Amadeus II for hours and it doesn't happen.

Has anyone else experienced this? Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks

It could be heat related. You should never put your Book on a flat surface i.e no airflow underneath while working it hard.

It could also be any number of issues related to an ailing system.
