Protools freezes upon play

Yesterday I have updated the computer of a friend to Protools 5.1 and OS 9.04
But now protools always freezes after playing 2 seconds of audio. It even freezes when it plays an fresh empty session with no audiofiles in it.

This is what I have done.
The system worked well with system 8.1 and protools 4.3
We decided to make all fresh and new on the computer. So after initalizing the internal harddrive with the apple tool (I have made an HFS+ system) I did a clean install of OS 9.04
and Protools 5.1. But now protools always freezes after playing 2 seconds of audio. It even freezes when it plays an fresh empty session with no audiofiles in it. You can do everything in protools but if you hit the spacebar its over.
I have removed all additional plugins, I updated the adaptec 2940UW to firmware 4.1.
All external harddisk have been initialized with HDT 3.02. Digitest reports no erros.

Nothing helped!!

The system: G3 266, 160 MB Ram (will be upgraded to maximum the next days), Protools MIX+ with additional Mix farm, Miro DC 30+, Adaptec 2940UW, Mac Picasso for second monitor, Magma 7-slot expansion chassis.
Slot order:
Mac: Magma card, miro, Adaptec.
Chassis: Core, Farm1, Farm 2, Mac Picasso.

Remember: This configuration worked well with OS 8.1 and protools 4.3

Any ideas? Did someone have the same problems.

I had a similar problem recently, and it turned out to be a bad DIMM.

History was as follows -

Added a Sonnett G3/500 to a 9600 with 9.0.4.

Result - it worked, but only after I (at sonnett's suggestion) de-interleaved the ram, which consisted of 4-64mb and 2-32mb dimms. Odd.

It worked ok, but when pushing the memory, I would get occasional gui freezes and type 1's.

Cut to 2 months later. I added2-128mbdimms to the above config. By this time I had moved to OS 9.1, which was working ok

Result - everything worked - except Protools. I'd hit play and a few seconds later it would crash.

I pulled the 32 mb dimms, and put the remaining ones back in interleaved mode.

Result - all is ok now.
