Default 13.2 vs. 13.4 on 2022.10, MacBook Pro M1 16”

Title says it all. Almost. I have an M1 MacBook Pro 16” arriving in a couple days (it has 13.2 on it) and supposedly 13.4 will come out in a few days as well. I know no one can tell the future, no way to *know* if it will have more bugs than 13.2 but asking for your best guesses. The thing is, if it’s a new (to me) computer and I haven’t yet loaded all my plugs etc, if 13.4 has any advantage (supposedly will have some new features and possibly efficiency tweaks), I’d rather do it now than install all my software in 13.2 then a month later backup, do clean OS install, reinstall everything (honestly I wouldn’t actually do that unless there were a big reason. I’m more the “set it and forget it” type about OS when it’s stable).

1) yes I know 2022.10 is not officially Ventura supported (there are also plenty of comments one here saying it works fine, at least early versions of it).

2) If Monterrey is waaay better with 2022.10 (not because avid says so but your actual experience), please let me know that as well.

Just trying to do this right the first time so I don’t do it twice.
I do not plan on reinstating my pro tools perpetual anytime soon (even tho 2022.10 is still Rosetta).

For what it is worth, I'm running Protools 2023.3 on MacOS 13.3.1 and it works fine for my uses. I run on both an Intel MacBook Pro and a Mac Studio M1Max. Since MacOS 13.4 is not out at the moment, it is impossible to say for sure. As Apple is making significant changes in transitioning to Apple Silicon processor and the necessary OS updates to optimize that transition, you can expect improvements with each new version that benefit Apple Silicon machines. The "set it and forget it" paradigm may not be ideal in this period. Avid is also trying to implement the necessary changes to keep up with Apple and will always lag behind due to less resources than Apple. While I understand the financial reasons for not chasing technology for the sake of technology, I feel that standing still during a time of transition may be risky. If you are moving to Apple Silicon, I suggest updating to the latest OS and Protools versions, but only you can determine your risk tolerance. Most of the issues with updates I've heard about are plugin related rather than OS or Protools related. If you are staying on Intel, it is less risky to stay put with what you know works. I hope that helps.

I am running Protools 22.10 on Ventura… I thought I researched that it was supported because I wouldn’t have upgraded to Ventura if it wasn’t… Kind of working fine besides the normal Protools problems… Error messages with barely anything going on if a CPU overload hits it just flashes red and you have to do a force restart of the program… A lot of plug-ins work fine in Rosetta
The biggest annoyance which was solved here by one of the members is a smart tool jumps around like crazy not knowing what it’s supposed to be and all you do is grab the corner of the window and resize it a millimeter or two and it straightens it out temporary

I have a MacBook Pro M1 16 gigs of ram… Was a temporary solution for me but now it’s my main computer until I decide to drop some money on mini
I had to move over to ableton to or any other program to get work done since Protools was such a cluster F…

And as stated many times here I am currently not on their plan and will reinstate when I see that they have their act together perhaps during the summer… 23 years later this company is so slow and so buggy and he’s been resting on the laurels of being first in line and print it on so many brains… I wish it worked better… Because I like it

So far, no difference in terms of Protools functionality or performance on my i7 Intel MacBook Pro with 16 GB RAM. For some reason, on my M1Max Mac Studio, the MacOS 13.4 does not show up when I check "software update." It is currently still on MacOS 13.3.1. Perhaps it'll show up in a few days.
